AERO Open Interest Jumps 24.2% as Leverage Builds Across Venues

Aerodrome Finance futures open interest has surged 24.2% in 24 hours to $173.6M, while the token trades around $0.9454. The expansion is broad rather than isolated: Binance holds $51.3M, or 29.6% of total OI, after a 25.5% daily increase; Bybit holds $30.9M, or 17.8%, after a 16.4% rise; and Gate holds $30.3M, or 17.5%, after a 26.0% increase. Recent market coverage has also focused on AERO’s strong performance relative to larger crypto assets.

OI growth is concentrated but widespread

The exchange distribution shows where the leverage is accumulating. Binance remains the anchor venue, and its OI also rose 2.4% over the latest 4-hour window. Gate added 2.6% in that period, slightly faster than Binance, while Bybit added 0.6%. OKX is much smaller at $3.4M and 2.0% share, yet its OI increased 38.0% in 24 hours. Bitget contributed $4.9M, or 2.8%, with a 21.4% daily gain.

That combination matters for an OI-surge setup: the largest books are expanding together, reducing the chance that the headline increase is only a thin-venue anomaly. AERO’s total OI is also up 2.3% in the latest hour, suggesting that leverage was still being added into the current move rather than merely reflecting an earlier burst of activity.

Funding is positive, but flow is not one-way

Funding rates are positive on most major venues, but the spread is meaningful. Binance, Bybit and Gate each show 0.005%, while Backpack is at 0.009179% and Coinbase is at 0.078%. Hyperliquid is lower at 0.00125%, and Bitget is the only listed negative reading at -0.003%. The broad positive bias supports a long-carrying market, yet the difference between ordinary venue rates and Coinbase’s much higher reading signals uneven demand rather than a uniform rush into longs.

The account data reinforces that distinction. Across the reported venues, 61.5% of accounts are long. Binance accounts are 60.4% long, Bybit accounts 60.1% long, and OKX accounts 72.9% long. However, active takers tell a different story on Binance: only 33.3% of taker volume is long versus 66.7% short. Gate presents the opposite extreme, with 83.2% of takers long. In other words, passive positioning leans bullish while aggressive execution is fragmented, a setup that can amplify volatility around the next directional break.

Liquidations show rising two-sided risk

Liquidation data is mixed across time windows. In the latest hour, shorts lost $1.2K versus $319.73 for longs, a small upside squeeze signal. Over 4 hours, however, long liquidations reached $27.9K against $6.7K for shorts, showing that pullbacks are already forcing out bullish leverage. The 12-hour window reverses again: shorts account for $66.5K and longs $35.0K. Across 24 hours, short liquidations total $119.3K compared with $48.9K for longs, or $168.3K overall.

The largest recorded events underline the nearby levels. A $18.6K Bybit long liquidation occurred at $0.9281, while a $12.5K OKX short liquidation occurred at $0.8779. The asymmetry between 24-hour short liquidations and the latest 4-hour long flush suggests that both sides are now vulnerable, with crowded longs exposed to a retracement even as shorts remain susceptible to another squeeze.

Verdict: The constructive signal is AERO holding above $0.9281 while OI remains near or above $173.6M; that would indicate demand is absorbing long liquidations instead of unwinding leverage. The view is invalidated if price breaks below $0.9281 while OI falls materially from $173.6M, confirming contraction rather than healthy rotation. A move toward $0.8779 would mark the deeper short-liquidation reference and materially weaken the bullish OI-surge thesis.
