Bitcoin Cash OI Falls 15.8% as $384.6M Derivatives Reset in 24h

Bitcoin Cash is trading at $348.33 while aggregate open interest sits near $384.6 million, down 15.8% over 24 hours. That is a meaningful leverage reset, especially because derivatives volume has not disappeared: the ticker shows $2.4 billion in turnover and a 24-hour price gain of 2.0%. The immediate question is whether this is a healthy purge that clears crowded exposure, or a warning that the latest advance is losing its leveraged bid.
The broader backdrop includes reports that CME is expanding its crypto derivatives lineup to include Bitcoin Cash futures, adding a potential institutional narrative to an already heated market. Yet the positioning data is more conflicted than the headline momentum suggests.
Binance still dominates the OI reset
Binance carries $161.0 million of BCH open interest, equal to 41.9% of the tracked total, and its position has fallen 6.1% in 24 hours. OKX contributes $34.0 million, or 8.8%, after a 6.9% daily decline. Bybit holds $60.5 million, representing 15.7%, but its OI is up 0.7% rather than shrinking. Bitget adds $25.0 million, or 6.5%, with a 1.2% increase.
This split matters. The largest venue is still carrying the main deleveraging burden, while Bybit and Bitget have begun rebuilding exposure. Over the latest four-hour window, OI increased 2.7% on Binance, 3.1% on OKX, 3.3% on Bybit and 3.8% on Bitget. The market therefore looks less like a clean exit and more like a purge followed by selective re-entry. If the rebound in venue-level OI continues without a fresh price breakdown, the liquidation event may have removed weak leverage rather than ending the trend.
Funding is positive, but not uniformly crowded
Current funding rates are positive at most major venues, though the differences are important. Binance, Bybit and Bitget each show 0.0% after one-decimal rounding, while OKX is also 0.0% on the same presentation basis. CoinEx is the outlier at -0.8%, whereas Coinbase is 0.0% and Hyperliquid is 0.0% after rounding.
The underlying average funding reading is -0.028675%, so the aggregate signal is still tilted against excessive long financing despite the broadly positive venue snapshot. This combination fits the OI data: leverage has been removed, but the remaining market is not uniformly paying to chase higher. A negative aggregate reading alongside rising four-hour OI suggests that some new exposure may be short-biased or hedged rather than an outright rush into longs.
Liquidations and positioning disagree
Forced exits have shifted across time windows. In the latest hour, short liquidations reached $37,794.67 versus only $1,103.32 of long liquidations. Over four hours, shorts accounted for $447,431.06 while longs contributed $203,633.44. That short-side pressure is consistent with price holding near $348.33 after a leveraged move higher.
However, the twelve-hour structure is different: long liquidations climbed to $2.9 million against $1.5 million for shorts. Across 24 hours, the totals were nearly balanced at $3.9 million of longs and $3.7 million of shorts, for $7.6 million overall. The largest recorded events included a $104,936.09 long liquidation on Bybit at $327.70 and a $104,742.00 long liquidation on Binance at $349.14.
Positioning confirms the tension. The long/short account ratio is long-heavy on Binance, with 62.5% of accounts long, and on Bybit, with 61.4% long. Bitget is also tilted long at 57.7%. Active takers tell another story: Binance takers are 57.9% short, OKX takers are 52.4% short, and Gate takers are 67.7% short. Passive accounts remain optimistic, but aggressive traders are selling into the move.
Verdict: The BCH OI purge is real, but it is not yet a definitive bearish reversal. The key near-term zone is $327.70 on the downside and $349.14 on the upside, with aggregate OI at $384.6 million as the leverage benchmark. The view favors a volatile reset while price holds above $327.70; it is invalidated if BCH loses $327.70 and OI expands back above $384.6 million, signaling fresh leverage entering a breakdown.
