BNB OI Tops $1B (+10.1%): Price Near $750, Funding Cool

BNB perp OI just crossed the $1 billion mark

BNB perpetual open interest reached $1.01 billion, up 10.1% over the past 24 hours, according to data aggregated from major exchanges. The move came as the BNB price added roughly 4% to sit near $748, recovering from a 24-hour low around $708 that was hit earlier in the week. Binance remains the dominant venue for BNB perps, holding about 49% of the total open interest, or $494 million.

Where the new leverage is coming from

The build-up is not spread evenly. Bybit added 17.6% of its perp positions in a day and now holds $138 million, about 13.7% of the market. OKX saw open interest jump 20.3% to $60.5 million. Binance itself grew 8% in 24 hours and another 9% in the past four hours, meaning fresh longs opened on the bounce rather than old positions being rolled over. Gate and Bitget also posted modest gains.

Funding tells a different story than the rally

Funding rates across venues sit near 0.01% per eight hours, which is roughly neutral. Binance, OKX, Bybit and Gate all show 0.01% or below. When a rally is driven by crowded leveraged longs, funding tends to spike positive as shorts pay to stay short. That has not happened here. The price is climbing while the cost of holding a long stays cheap, a combination that usually points to spot or fresh buying rather than a short squeeze.

What the $1B OI level means

Crossing $1 billion in perp open interest puts BNB back in the same league as the larger cap names that regularly hold nine-figure derivative books. The more important number is how fast leverage built: 10% in one day is not extreme by crypto standards, and funding at neutral levels suggests there is still room for longs to add. The risk is the flip side, a sharp drop would liquidate the newest entrants first, since much of this OI was opened in the last 24 hours. Watch whether funding starts to climb above 0.02%, which would signal the trade is getting crowded.
