CBRS +10% to $210.8: OI Shrinks 3.9% as Leverage Stays Out

The CBRS perpetual, which tracks Cerebras Systems on Nasdaq, is trading at $210.8, up 10% over 24 hours. The interesting part is what the derivatives data says underneath: open interest fell 3.9% to $16.2 million while the price climbed, and funding rates sit at zero or close to it across major venues. That combination usually points to short covering and spot buying, not a wave of fresh leveraged longs.
CBRS perp climbs 10% after an AI-chip session
The 24-hour window for CBRS covers a wild swing. Per-venue data shows a low around $188.3 and a high near $216.8, so the perp has rebounded roughly 12% off that low. The move came after AI chip names rallied on Thursday, with Cerebras extending gains built over the previous two sessions. Reports tied the lift to Nvidia's roughly $13 billion deal for Hugging Face and Cerebras's own expansion push, including a new AI data center in Finland announced earlier in the week. US-style equity perps trade around the clock, so the rally kept running into the Asian session even as the underlying stock market was closed.
Open interest falls while price rises
That is the main divergence in this rally. CBRS open interest sits at $16.2 million across venues, down 3.9% in 24 hours, at the same time the price gained 10%. When leverage is driving a move, OI typically grows alongside price. Here it is shrinking, which reads as positions being closed into strength. The venue split tells a mixed story: Bybit added 15.2% to its book and Bitget grew 9%, while Gate cut 18%, OKX trimmed 7.1% and WhiteBIT shed 16%. Bitget holds the largest share at 32.8%, followed by Gate at 20.7% and OKX at 15.7%.
Funding near zero across the board
Funding rates for CBRS are effectively flat. Binance, Bitget and Gate all show 0.0000%, and Bybit sits at 0.0034%. For a stock that just jumped 10%, that is cold. A leveraged rally usually pushes funding positive and rising as longs pay to stay on. Here the absence of a funding premium matches the OI decline, reinforcing that leveraged buyers are not crowding in, at least not yet.
What to watch next
For traders holding CBRS perps or thinking about entering, the key signal is whether open interest starts climbing on a pullback. If OI rises while the price dips, dip-buyers are using leverage and the move has more legs. If OI keeps falling on any bounce, expect the rally to fade into the Nasdaq open, where the stock will have to confirm what the perp did overnight. Equity perps can also gap when the underlying market reopens, so the spread between the perp and the stock price during US hours is worth watching. For now the data says this advance is running on conviction in the underlying story, not borrowed money, which makes it healthier but also harder to extrapolate.
