Dogecoin Open Interest Hits $1.02B as Gate's Longs Diverge From Taker Flow

Dogecoin's aggregate open interest sits at $1.02B (+1.3% in 24h) even as spot Dogecoin trades at $0.08086, up 1.2% on the day. Beneath that stable OI number, the top venues are pulling in opposite directions, and account positioning has split sharply from actual taker flow — a divergence that matters more than the headline price move.

Open interest concentration hides a Gate reversal

Binance still leads with $221.6M in open interest, a 21.8% share of the market, up 1.2% in 24h and a further 0.9% in the last 4h — steady accumulation. Gate ranks second at $196.8M (19.3% share) and posted the largest 24h gain among majors at 3.5%, but that OI has already reversed, falling 6.2% in just the last 4 hours. Bybit ($116.8M, 11.5% share, +1.7% 24h, +1.2% 4h), Bitget ($103.4M, 10.2% share, +0.5% 24h) and OKX ($82.2M, 8.1% share, +1.2% 24h, +0.9% 4h) all show slower but still-positive builds. Gate's whipsaw — the fastest 24h OI growth of any top-five venue immediately followed by the sharpest 4h unwind — is the first sign that positioning built into the bounce is already being pared back.

Accounts stay long, taker flow says otherwise

Across all venues, 77.2% of long/short accounts are net long Dogecoin futures, yet the taker buy/sell ratio reads only 43.3% long — active order flow is not confirming the crowd's directional bet. The gap is starkest on Gate: 73.2% of accounts there are positioned long, but taker flow is only 20.7% long (79.3% short), meaning recent aggressive selling is running directly against a still-long account base. Binance shows a milder version of the same pattern — 69.7% of accounts long against 63.7% taker-long — so the divergence is smallest on the exchange with steadier OI growth and widest on the exchange whose OI just reversed.

Liquidations flip from long flush to short squeeze

Over the full 24h window, long liquidations total $1.56M versus $811K for shorts, confirming that the broader move down to the day's lows wiped out longs first. The more recent windows tell a different story: in the past 12h, short liquidations ($280.5K) outran longs ($35.9K) by roughly 8-to-1, and in the past 4h shorts ($116.7K) still dominate longs ($20.4K). The largest single liquidations bracket both ends of the range — an OKX long wipeout of $321.2K and an Aster long liquidation of $139.3K both fired near $0.0783-$0.0784, while a Binance short liquidation of $81.8K and a Bybit short liquidation of $81.4K fired near $0.0805-$0.0813 as price bounced.

News context: CoinJournal reported that soft ETF demand and cautious positioning are limiting Dogecoin's recovery attempts.

The bounce off $0.0783 has already forced out over-levered shorts, but the account-vs-taker split — especially Gate's 73.2% long accounts against just 20.7% taker-long flow — shows conviction has not followed price higher. Watch $0.0783 as the level that triggered the last long-liquidation cluster and $0.0813 as the ceiling where shorts just got squeezed; a close outside that band alongside total OI moving away from $1.02B would matter more than the percentage move itself. If Gate's taker-long share climbs back above 50% alongside renewed 4h OI growth rather than another reversal, that would invalidate the bearish-lean read and point to genuine demand instead of short covering.
