ENA +8.3% to $0.162: OI Up 7% to $384M, Funding Cold

ENA pushes higher while funding stays flat
ENA trades at $0.162, up 8.3% over 24 hours, after bouncing off a $0.146 low. Binance quotes $0.16174 and OKX $0.16179, so the move is broad-based rather than one venue marking prices. The 24-hour range is tight for a coin that swung 31% two days ago: high $0.167, low $0.146. Open interest rose 7% to $384.5M, yet funding rates barely moved. Most venues sit at 0.005% or below, and a few are negative. Longs are not paying for the rally, which separates this leg from the late-August squeeze where fees turned hot.
OI growth is concentrated, not uniform
The OI increase is not spread evenly. Binance added 9.2% to $95.7M, Hyperliquid 11% to $64.1M, Bitget 11.6% to $36.7M, and Bybit 8.1% to $76.4M. MEXC went the other way, cutting 9.9% to $33.1M. That split matters: the venues adding the most also hold the largest books, so the fresh exposure is mostly liquid, institutional-grade flow rather than scattered retail leverage on fringe exchanges.
Shorts keep paying, but the squeeze is thinning
ENA liquidations over 24 hours totaled $1.76M, with shorts at $1.2M, or 68% of the total. That is a short squeeze, but a modest one. Compare with August 28, when ENA swung 31% and shorts were cleaned out for $6.17M. The current flush is about a third of that size, which suggests sellers are being forced out slowly instead of in one violent cascade. With funding near zero, there is little standing cost to staying short, so the remaining shorts may simply wait for a pullback.
What to watch
The setup is a spot-driven rally with cold derivatives. If ENA holds above $0.16 and OI keeps climbing with funding flat, the move has room because leverage is not stacked against it. The risk flips if funding turns sharply positive: that would mean late longs are paying up, and a reversal would liquidate exactly the crowd that just joined. MEXC's trim is the other tell. Retail leveraged exits during a rally have marked local tops in this cycle before.
