Exchange Skew Split: HL 68% Longs, Gate 68% Shorts in $263M

Exchange-level liquidation data is showing something the network-wide totals hide: the top two venues wiped out opposite sides all day, and both sat on the same $263 million tape. When venues diverge this hard, the aggregate numbers start to mean less than the breakdown.

Hyperliquid paid 67.8% longs, Gate paid 68.1% shorts

In the last 24 hours Hyperliquid liquidated $17.2 million, with $11.7 million of it on the long side, a 67.8% long skew. Gate went the other way: $19.4 million wiped, $13.2 million of it shorts, a 68.1% short skew. Binance, OKX and Bybit all sat near 46-51% longs, effectively balanced. The network total came to $263.1 million across 82,196 positions, which looks calm on paper, but the two extremes tell a different story.

What this venue split actually signals

Hyperliquid tends to carry the sharper, more leveraged flow, so a persistent long-heavy liquidation there means aggressive traders got caught chasing upside that did not follow through. Gate's short-heavy side points to a different crowd pressing downside into a market that refused to break. When both happen at once, you get the sideways chop that dominated the last day: nobody was wrong enough to move price, but plenty of positions were wrong enough to die.

The last hour flipped to shorts on the ETH bounce

The final hour flipped hard. Short liquidations made up 71.4% of the $3.98 million wiped in that window, led by a $2.61 million BTC short on Binance that got swept at $79,134 and a $5.03 million ETH short at $2,516.80. ETH itself bounced to $2,496, up 1.2% on the day, and the short squeeze is what shows up in the hourly numbers while the 24-hour window still looks long-heavy. Timing matters when reading liquidation data: the daily view lags the real action by hours.

Biggest single prints skew short

The largest-single-liquidation list tells the same story. The top print is a $9.67 million ETH long on Binance at $2,416.80, but six of the top ten prints are shorts: a $5.03 million ETH short at $2,516.80, a $2.61 million BTC short on Aster at $79,134, a $2.32 million ETH short at $2,514.30, plus a $1.99 million ETH short and a $1.23 million ETH short on OKX. The extreme prints are overwhelmingly shorts, which lines up with the hourly flip and suggests the squeeze is the freshest force in the market.

What to watch next

Skew divergence like this usually resolves in one of two ways: either price breaks out and the side that was wrong earlier gets caught again, or the market keeps grinding sideways and both crowds bleed out slowly. The signal to watch is funding and open interest on these two venues, since they carry the most one-sided risk right now. A fresh leg up would likely torch another round of shorts there, while any failed push would keep feeding longs into the liquidation engine.
