ICP +6.2% to $2.53: OI +10.9% to $81M, Funding Flat

ICP breaks away from a red tape
ICP traded at $2.53 late Tuesday, up 6.2% in 24 hours, while BTC slipped about 1.2% to $76,900 and ETH lost 2.2% to $2,389. The move stands out because most large caps spent the session drifting lower. Binance quoted ICP at $2.529 with a 24-hour range of $2.382 to $2.587; OKX showed $2.527, high $2.590, low $2.382. The two venues agreed within a fraction of a cent, and volume picked up to roughly $31.5M on Binance and $14.8M on OKX over the window.
Open interest climbs with the price
Perpetual open interest across major venues rose 10.9% in 24 hours to $81.0M, according to exchange data. Binance accounts for 29.2% of that at $23.6M, up 10.5% on the day. Bybit holds the second-largest share at 18.5% with $15.0M, adding 13.1%, and OKX open interest grew fastest among the top venues at 18.1% to $5.5M. Rising price together with rising open interest usually points to new positions entering rather than shorts covering, and the funding picture backs that read.
Funding stays cold, so this is not a squeeze
Funding rates across Binance, OKX, Bybit, Gate and Hyperliquid all sit near 0.01%, effectively neutral. A short squeeze typically shows funding climbing into positive territory as leveraged longs pay to stay long. ICP's flat funding means the rally is not being fueled by crowded positioning on one side. That reduces the risk of a violent unwind if the move stalls, but it also means momentum has to come from fresh buyers, not forced covering.
What to watch
ICP has now recovered from the $2.38 low printed earlier in the session, and the immediate resistance is the $2.59 area that capped the high on both Binance and OKX. A decisive break above $2.59 with open interest still expanding would confirm the trend; a fade back below $2.45 would put the new longs under pressure. Given that funding is flat and OI is rising, the move looks directional rather than speculative, but traders should still treat the $2.59 level as the line in the sand.
