ICP +8.2% to $2.67: OI Jumps 17.3%, MEXC Adds 45%

ICP breaks higher with fresh leverage
ICP climbed 8.2% over the past 24 hours to $2.67, and the move came with a clear build in derivatives positioning. Open interest across major venues rose 17.3% to $88.0 million, a signal that this rally is being funded by new positions rather than short covering alone. Binance and OKX both show the token trading in a tight band around $2.67, with the 24-hour range spanning $2.46 to $2.72.
MEXC leads the OI chase
The most striking part of the OI increase is where it came from. MEXC added 45.1% of its notional in one day, pushing its share to 18.2% of total ICP open interest, and the pace kept going in the last four hours with another 14.4% gain. OKX grew 17.4%, Bybit added 14%, and Hyperliquid rose 16.5%. Binance still holds the top seat at 27% of all ICP positions, but the marginal flows are coming from venues that usually attract retail leverage traders.
Funding stays positive but not overheated
Funding rates across exchanges are uniformly mild. Binance, OKX, Bybit and Bitget all sit near 0.01% per eight hours, which is a normal long-side cost rather than a crowded-trade warning. Only Coinbase shows a slightly negative rate, and it holds a tiny share of the market. At this level, longs are not paying a heavy premium to stay in the trade, which leaves room for the position build to continue without an immediate squeeze in either direction.
What the setup means
The combination of a steady price grind and rising OI points to conviction buying, but it also raises the risk profile. A move like this is easier to unwind quickly if spot momentum stalls, because the extra leverage has been added at the retail-heavy venues with thinner books. Traders watching ICP should treat $2.46 as the line in the sand: a break back below that low with OI still elevated would suggest the new longs are trapped, while a hold above $2.70 with funding staying flat would confirm the trend has room to extend.
