JUP +9.4% to $0.241: OI +28% to $58M, Funding Flat

JUP Derivatives Heat Up With Price
JUP moved up 9.4% to $0.241 over the past 24 hours, and this time the derivatives side is following along. Open interest across tracked venues sits at $58M, up 28% from the same time yesterday. That combination of rising price and rising positions is the signature of fresh longs entering the market rather than a short squeeze. Squeeze-driven rallies usually show falling open interest as forced covers unwind. Here the opposite is happening, which points to traders adding exposure on the way up.
Hyperliquid and MEXC Lead the Build
The OI increase is not spread evenly. Hyperliquid added 43% to reach $11.4M, while MEXC grew 42% to $4M and KuCoin added 36% to $3.6M. Binance, still the largest venue with $12.8M, rose a more modest 21%. Bybit added 22% to $12.1M. The pattern is notable because the biggest percentage gains came from venues where retail and perp-focused traders are most active. When smaller venues grow faster than the market leaders, it usually signals genuine new demand instead of a single institution repositioning.
Funding Stays Flat at 0.005%
Despite the move, funding rates have not gone anywhere. Binance and OKX both show 0.005% per 8-hour period, while Hyperliquid sits at 0.0125%. Nothing on the board is even close to the 0.05%-plus levels that typically mark a crowded long trade. This matters for the durability of the rally. If funding had spiked, it would suggest leverage was piling in too fast and the move would be vulnerable to a quick unwind. The calm funding picture means longs are paying almost nothing to hold, which reduces the pressure to sell into strength.
Liquidations Stay Quiet in Both Directions
JUP is absent from the top-20 liquidation list. Its 24-hour liquidation total is below the level of mid-cap coins like RUNE, which saw $583K wiped. That quiet liquidation backdrop is consistent with the OI build: new buyers are putting on positions while the market is calm, not chasing a violent squeeze that would leave a trail of forced exits. The absence of a large flush also means there is no obvious overhead supply of trapped longs waiting to cap the next push higher.
What to watch: if JUP holds above $0.235, the $58M of open interest becomes the fuel for another leg up, with Hyperliquid's 43% build as the leading indicator. A drop below $0.22 with OI shrinking would flip the setup back to a positioning unwind.
