LA Fades 10% From High: OI +40%, Funding -0.52%

LA price fades while open interest climbs
LA traded at $0.0619 on Binance and $0.0619 on OKX early Wednesday Asia time, roughly 10% below the $0.0690 high it printed during Tuesday's spot-led rally. The 24-hour change is still positive at +8.9%, but the tape has clearly cooled: the token hit $0.0556 about a day ago, ripped to $0.0690, then gave back part of the move over the past few hours.
What stands out is what happened in the derivatives book while the spot price faded. Open interest across major venues rose to $14.1 million, up 41.8% in 24 hours. Binance perp OI added 42.6%, Bybit was up 27.2%, KuCoin jumped more than 200%, and even Gate and MEXC posted 40-50% gains. In plain terms, leveraged longs kept opening positions as the price pulled back from the high.
Funding turns deeply negative after the squeeze
The funding picture explains the tension. LA perps are now paying a deeply negative rate: Binance prints about -0.52% per 8-hour cycle, KuCoin around -0.40%, Bitget -0.47%, Bybit -0.19%. On OKX the last settled rate was -0.52%, with the current period at roughly -0.42%. Negative funding means shorts are collecting from longs every settlement, a sign that crowded longs are subsidizing the other side while still refusing to close.
That is a classic post-squeeze setup: the initial short squeeze that drove price from $0.0556 to $0.0690 has cooled, short sellers have re-entered into the fade, and the long side is paying them to stay. The rate has not flipped positive, which is unusual for a coin still showing an 8.9% daily gain. It tells you the rally was driven more by spot buying than by levered long demand.
OI is starting to cool in the latest 4-hour window
Not everything points to stubborn longs. Looking at the most recent four hours, OI has started to shrink on several venues: OKX perp OI is down about 20% over 4h, MEXC down 15%, WhiteBIT down 9%, KuCoin down 4.6%. Binance and Bybit are roughly flat to slightly lower. The 24-hour numbers still look strong because most of the build happened earlier, but the marginal flow over the last four hours has turned cautious.
That is the kind of divergence that usually resolves one way or another. If price stabilizes near $0.062 and OI resumes climbing, longs are adding into support and the pullback may be shallow. If the 4-hour OI decline broadens while price keeps fading, the leveraged longs that piled in near the top become the fuel for the next flush. The deepest risk sits with the late entries: anyone who opened after price passed $0.066 is underwater at the current print, and funding keeps bleeding them.
What to watch
Three numbers matter over the next sessions. First, whether Binance funding stays below -0.40%: a deeply negative rate at a stable price usually means longs are being paid to wait, but here they are the payers. Second, whether KuCoin OI keeps climbing after its 200% surge, since a single venue carrying that much fresh leverage can unwind quickly. Third, the $0.0690 high itself: a reclaim would flip the fade narrative, while a break below $0.058 would point to a full retrace of Tuesday's move.
