NEAR Reversal: -4.2% to $1.85, OI Sheds 6.4% to $370M

NEAR's $2.01 Breakout Failed in Under a Day
NEAR fell 4.2% to $1.85 in the past 24 hours, giving back most of Monday's breakout gains. Binance and OKX both put the 24-hour range at $1.83 to $1.94, so the move is consistent across the two biggest perp venues rather than a one-exchange quirk. The token had pushed toward $2.01 on the wider tape earlier, then rolled over once buyers at the round number disappeared. Volume stayed high at roughly $330 million across major exchanges, which means the drop happened with real participation, not on thin order books.
Open Interest Fell $25M, Hyperliquid Led the Exit
Open interest is down 6.4% to $370 million, and the unwind is not evenly spread. Hyperliquid cut its book by 13.2% to $75.6 million, the steepest drop among large venues, and it now roughly matches Bybit's $76.5 million as the biggest single pool. Bybit only trimmed 1.6%, Binance is down 3.8% to $72.5 million, and KuCoin shed 7.2% to $37.7 million. The pattern points to where the breakout leverage was built: mostly on Hyperliquid, and that is where it is coming out now.
Only $960K in Liquidations: Position Cutting, Not a Cascade
Forced selling is not the main driver here. NEAR saw about $960,000 in liquidations over the last 24 hours, with longs paying roughly 98% of that total. A liquidation number that small relative to a $370 million book means the slide was not a margin-call cascade. Traders closed positions on their own terms as momentum faded, which is a cleaner unwind than a flush but also a sign that the breakout failed to bring in sticky buyers.
Funding Still Positive: No Panic, But Downside Room Remains
Perpetual funding on NEAR stays slightly positive, around 0.008% on Binance and 0.006% on Bybit, with Hyperliquid near 0.001%. Positive funding during a pullback usually means leveraged longs still outnumber shorts and keep paying to hold. That cuts both ways: it confirms the move lower is orderly so far, but it also leaves room for another leg down if price breaks below $1.83, where recent stop losses cluster. A close back above $1.94 would signal the breakout attempt is not dead yet.
