Polkadot Derivatives: $159M OI Meets a 70.3% Long Account Tilt

Polkadot derivatives are showing a clear positioning split at $1.1496: total open interest is $158.7M, up 6.6% over 24 hours, while 70.3% of tracked accounts are long. The headline setup is bullish, but the distribution of that exposure matters more than the aggregate ratio. A market note also suggested that DOT had reclaimed $1.09 while its momentum was losing strength, a view that fits the derivatives data more than a clean trend-continuation narrative.

OI is rising, but venues are not moving together

Binance remains the largest DOT derivatives venue with $44.6M of OI, or 28.1% of the total, after a 4.6% daily increase. Bybit is the second-largest meaningful block at $23.2M and 14.6% share, but its OI has grown 10.1% in 24 hours. Bitget is close behind with $22.1M and 13.9% share, up 6.3%, while OKX holds $8.7M and 5.5% share after a more modest 2.0% rise.

The shorter horizon creates the more important divergence. Binance added 0.9% in four hours, Bitget was almost unchanged at 0.0%, and OKX fell 0.9%. Bybit also declined 0.5% over the same window. In other words, the daily expansion is not being uniformly reinforced at the largest venues. Gate is a smaller $6.4M pool with 4.1% share, yet its OI jumped 20.8% in 24 hours and 0.4% in four hours, pointing to more aggressive risk-taking in a less dominant venue.

Funding is positive in some books, negative in others

The funding rate map reinforces that split. Binance is positive at 0.0% when rounded to one decimal place, Bybit is also positive at 0.0%, and Bitget and Gate both round to 0.0% on the positive side. By contrast, OKX is negative at -0.0%, while Coinbase is -0.0% and CoinEx is -0.1%. The signs matter despite the small rounded values: longs are paying on several high-volume venues, while other books are charging shorts or remain tilted toward short-side financing.

The cross-venue spread makes the aggregate funding average less decisive. DOT's average funding is negative at -0.0% on an eight-hour basis, even as some of the most visible trading venues show positive rates. That combination suggests leverage is being added unevenly rather than through one synchronized long build. Traders should therefore treat the OI increase as conditional bullish positioning, not confirmation that every venue is aligned.

Accounts lean long, while active buyers lean even harder

The long/short ratio by account is already constructive: Binance has 64.1% long accounts, OKX 73.8%, Bybit 72.3%, and Gate 62.8%. The taker view is more extreme where data is available. Binance takers are 69.5% long, and Gate takers are 93.2% long. This is the core positioning divergence: active market orders are more aggressively long than the underlying account population, especially on Gate.

That imbalance has not yet produced a broad long-liquidation cascade. In the latest hour, only $63.03 of shorts were liquidated and no longs were recorded. Across four hours, long liquidations reached $5.0K versus $3.7K for shorts. Over 12 hours, the structure flipped toward long-side stress, with $76.9K of longs liquidated against $40.3K of shorts. The full 24-hour window was different again: $138.0K of longs and $238.9K of shorts were liquidated, for $376.9K total. Short liquidations therefore dominated the day, but the recent 12-hour balance shows that crowded longs are becoming more vulnerable.

Exclusive verdict: DOT remains tactically constructive above $1.09 while OI holds near $158.7M, but the long-account and taker concentration argues against chasing a breakout without fresh confirmation. The bullish view is invalidated if price loses $1.09 while OI continues expanding from the current $158.7M level, especially if long liquidations accelerate beyond the current $76.9K 12-hour total; a recovery above $1.1496 with renewed Binance and Bybit OI growth would instead support continuation.
