SNDK perp breaks higher as memory trade heats up

SanDisk's perpetual on Binance and OKX climbed to $1,638, a gain of roughly 7% over the past 24 hours. The move took the token near its intraday high of $1,656, with spot volume topping $2.4 billion on Binance alone. OKX quoted $1,634 at the same time, so the two venues were within 0.3% of each other. The rally did not come from a short squeeze. Liquidation data shows no unusual burst of short covering behind the push, which points to fresh buying rather than trapped sellers being forced out.

What makes this leg stand out is the leverage picture. Total open interest across SNDK perps rose 18.3% to roughly $500 million over 24 hours, so the higher price is being confirmed by new positions instead of fading volume.

Where the new leverage went

The OI build is not evenly spread. Gate holds the largest slice at 43.6% of the total, and its positions grew 14.5% on the day. OKX was the fastest mover, adding 33.6% in 24 hours and 26.3% in the last four hours alone, lifting its share to 22%. Bitget added 21.8% and now carries 8.1% of the book. Bybit was the odd one out, trimming 0.75% even as the price rallied, a mild sign that some desks took profit into strength.

Concentration matters here. Three venues now control roughly three-quarters of SNDK's open interest, so liquidation cascades, when they come, tend to hit harder and faster than in more dispersed markets.

Zero funding says this is not a crowded long

Funding rates across Binance, Bybit, Bitget and Gate all sit at zero or near zero. That is unusual for a token up 7% with OI expanding. In a typical leveraged rally, longs pay a positive rate to hold their positions; here the cost of staying long is essentially nothing. It suggests the move is still early and positioning is not stretched, but it also removes the usual brake on leverage building further.

For traders the setup cuts both ways. Low funding means a long position is cheap to carry, yet it also tells you the market has not yet priced in any urgency, so a reversal could come without warning from crowded one-way books on Gate and OKX.

What to watch next

SNDK is moving with a broader memory and storage theme. Micron and Dell-linked perps were also bid this session, so watch whether the sector keeps leading or mean-reverts together. On the derivatives side, the number to track is funding on Gate and OKX, the two largest books. If the rate flips clearly positive while price stalls near $1,656, that would signal late leverage piling in at the top of the range rather than early accumulation.
