Solana: $5.18B Open Interest Meets a 73.2% Long Account Skew

Solana is trading at $109.4 with $5.18B in open interest, up 1.0% over 24 hours, but the positioning picture is unstable: 73.2% of accounts are long while only 33.0% of active taker flow is long. That gap points to crowded passive bullish positioning meeting aggressive selling, not a clean directional consensus.

Recent market coverage has paired Solana’s planned network upgrade with weakening spot momentum and growing address activity, while broader crypto ETF flows have also been negative.

OI is concentrated, but not moving uniformly

The largest SOL OI block is Binance at $940.2M, or 18.2% of the tracked total, with its position base up 0.8% over 24 hours. Gate is almost as large at $912.9M and 17.6% share, but its OI has expanded 2.2%, the fastest increase among the leading venues. Bybit holds $701.2M, or 13.5%, with OI up 0.5%, while Bitget carries $467.2M and 9.0%, up 0.2%.

These four venues account for 58.4% of tracked SOL OI. The pattern matters for liquidation skew: exposure is building most quickly at Gate, while the larger Binance and Bybit books are also adding risk. With total OI up 1.0% and volume down 23.8%, leverage is growing against a less active trading backdrop.

Funding is positive, but takers are selling

The funding rate spread reinforces the crowding signal. Bitget is charging longs 0.010%, Binance is at 0.005%, and OKX is at 0.008%, while Bybit is negative at -0.003%. The absolute rates are not extreme, but the cross-venue split shows that long holders are still paying for exposure on several major books even as short-term traders lean the other way.

Exchange-level long/short ratios show the same divide. Long accounts represent 70.8% on Binance, 70.7% on OKX, 74.4% on Bybit, 82.5% on Bitget, and 67.9% on Gate. Yet taker flow is only 56.4% long on Binance, 36.0% long on OKX, and just 6.6% long on Gate. Gate’s 93.4% short taker share is the clearest sign that active participants are selling into a market where accounts remain heavily long.

Liquidations have rotated from shorts to longs

The 24-hour liquidation total is $3.91M, split between $2.47M of short liquidations and $1.44M of long liquidations. That headline balance is less bearish than the shorter windows. Over 12 hours, long liquidations reached $1.26M while shorts accounted for only $18.5K. Over 4 hours, longs lost $55.0K versus $5.3K for shorts, and the latest 1-hour window recorded $4.8K of long liquidations with no short liquidations.

The largest recorded short squeezes occurred on OKX at $110.37 and $110.54, worth $1.45M and $518.8K. Long liquidations then appeared lower, including $203.7K at $109.28 on OKX, $181.3K at $108.80 on Binance, and $103.6K at $108.46 on Binance. This sequence suggests that upside shorts were cleared first, but the subsequent liquidation structure is now more vulnerable on the long side.

Verdict: SOL’s liquidation skew is bearish beneath the $110.54 short-liquidation zone: crowded long accounts, negative basis of 20.0% annualized, and defensive taker flow leave downside liquidation risk concentrated around $109.28, $108.80, and $108.46. The view is invalidated if SOL reclaims $110.54 while Binance OI expands beyond $940.2M, showing fresh leveraged demand rather than a short-covering bounce.
