SPX +17% to $0.616: OI Jumps 30.6%, Funding Flat

SPX Moves 25% in a Day, Closes Up 17%

SPX traded from a 24-hour low of $0.5185 to a high of $0.6482 before settling near $0.616. Binance shows a 17.0% gain over 24 hours, with OKX printing 16.7% on the same tape. Volume is real: Binance alone booked about $39.6 million in turnover, OKX another $21.8 million. This is a mid-cap altcoin that normally trades quietly, so the jump in activity stands out.

The move did not come out of nowhere. The token had been coiling below $0.52 for most of the week, and today's break above $0.60 was the first clean range expansion in recent sessions. What matters for traders is not the single candle but what the derivatives book did alongside it.

Open Interest Up 30.6% to $51.6M: New Money, Not Just Price

Open interest across 14 venues rose 30.6% in 24 hours to $51.6 million, according to the latest snapshot. Binance OI added 37.8%, OKX jumped 113.9% from a small base, and Bybit, the largest single venue with 27.3% of the book, grew 26.2%. Four-hour changes show a slight cooling (Bybit -4.5%, Binance +0.9%), which reads as profit-taking after the push rather than a fresh wave of leverage.

The composition matters more than the total. When open interest climbs this fast, it usually comes with one exchange dominating the add. Here the growth is spread across Binance, OKX and Bybit, which is the signature of broad participation instead of a single market-maker position.

Funding Near Zero: No Squeeze Signature

Funding rates across Binance, Bybit, Bitget and Gate all sit at 0.005% per 8 hours, with Hyperliquid at 0.00125%. In a classic short squeeze, funding spikes as shorts pay longs to hold. That is not happening here. Perp holders are not paying a premium to stay long, which means the rally is being carried by spot demand and directional buying, not by forced covering.

Liquidations confirm the read. SPX barely appears on the liquidation leaderboard over the past 24 hours, with no single wipeout of note and no outsized long or short flush. Compare that with the squeeze plays earlier this week, where one-sided liquidations dominated the tape.

What to Watch

The setup is constructive but not without risk. A coin that gains 17% with open interest up 30% and funding flat can still reverse if spot buyers step away; the four-hour OI cooling already hints at some profit-taking. For traders, the key levels are the $0.60 round number now acting as support and the $0.648 high as the next trigger. If open interest keeps climbing while funding stays below 0.01%, the move has room; if funding flips strongly positive, expect a faster, choppier tape.
