VELVET +29% After 74% Intraday Swing: OI Up 37% to $53M

VELVET Rallied 29% While the Chart Shows a 74% Swing
VELVET closed the last 24 hours at $0.856, up 29.3% on Binance, after trading between a low of $0.5236 and a high of $0.9126. That is a 74% round trip inside one day, the kind of range that usually leaves a trail of wrecked leverage behind. Ten exchanges quote the token between $0.831 and $0.858 right now, so the move is broad-based rather than a single book printing the price.
The interesting part is what did not happen. Liquidations on VELVET barely registered on the global board, and spot volume on Binance reached $47.8M. A 74% swing with that little forced selling points to real buying, not a cascade.
Open Interest Rose 37% to $53.2M While Funding Stayed Flat
Aggregate open interest across seven exchanges sits at $53.2M, up 37.2% in 24 hours. The build is uneven. Gate's OI nearly tripled, up 188%, while Binance added 42.2% to reach $14.7M and a 27.7% share. MEXC was the only venue to cut positions, down 9.3%.
Funding rates tell the same story as the liquidation data. Binance funding is 0.008%, essentially neutral, and most venues sit between 0.005% and 0.018%. Only Gate is elevated at 0.183%. When a coin rallies 29% with neutral funding, longs are not paying for the move, they are entering before the crowd asks them to.
New Longs, Not a Squeeze: Why the Setup Reads Healthy
A short squeeze shows up in the data as heavy short-side liquidations and spiking funding. VELVET shows neither. The 74% low-to-high range was not defended by a wall of leveraged shorts, so the breakout did not need a cascade to sustain itself. Instead, OI grew faster than price, which normally means position building rather than position closing.
The one caveat is liquidity depth. Spot volume of $47.8M looks respectable, but most of it is concentrated on Binance and a handful of mid-tier venues. If price reverses, the exit door is narrower than the entry door, and the 30-60% daily ranges this token has printed in the past week can hit longs hard on the way down.
What to Watch Next
Two levels matter now. A retest of the $0.91 area with OI still climbing would confirm the breakout; a move back below $0.70, roughly the midpoint of today's range, would undo most of the new longs. Keep an eye on Gate funding, the first metric that will spike if this turns into a crowded long trade.
