Zcash at $1,210: $2.31B Open Interest Tests a Fragile Breakout

$1,210.39 is the key snapshot for Zcash as its derivatives market attempts to stabilize after a sharp repricing. Total open interest is $2.31B, down 1.1% over 24 hours, while the token is up 1.8% on the latest daily reading. That combination points to a rebound with limited leverage expansion rather than a fully confirmed breakout. Recent coverage has framed Zcash as under pressure during a wider crypto sell-off, while also noting fund outflows and a developer timeline for quantum-resistant payments.

OI leadership is split

The largest venue remains Binance, holding $580.6M or 25.1% of tracked ZEC open interest. Its position has contracted 4.9% over 24 hours and 0.6% over four hours, making it the clearest drag among the major books. Gate is the main counterweight: it carries $309.2M, a 13.4% share, and has added 4.4% over 24 hours and 0.3% over four hours.

Bybit contributes $174.9M, or 7.6%, after a 0.7% daily increase, although its four-hour change is down 0.4%. OKX holds $141.7M, equal to 6.1%, with open interest falling 1.9% daily and 2.8% over four hours. The top venues therefore do not show a unified risk-on build: Gate and Bybit are adding exposure, but Binance and OKX are removing it. Until total OI turns higher from $2.31B, the price move has a distribution-quality signal rather than a clean leverage-led breakout.

Funding is positive, not euphoric

The funding rate map is broadly positive but uneven. Bybit, Gate, Bitget and several smaller venues are at 0.0100%, while Binance is lower at 0.0085%. Bitfinex is flat at 0.0000%, and the cheapest positive readings include Hyperliquid at 0.0013% and Kraken at 0.0010%. CoinEx is the outlier at 0.1651%, but its open interest is only $507.4K, or 0.02% of the tracked total, so it should not define the market-wide signal.

This structure says longs are paying shorts on most active books, but the cost is not yet broadly extreme. The funding premium supports a modest bullish bias, yet the simultaneous 1.1% decline in total OI means the move is not being reinforced across the market. A sustained price advance would be more credible if positive funding persisted while Binance stopped shedding its 25.1% share.

Liquidations favor the short squeeze, unevenly

The liquidation tape is more constructive for bulls than the OI data. Over 24 hours, short liquidations reached $4.8M versus $2.1M for longs, from $6.9M total across 1,690 events. The imbalance was also visible over 12 hours, when shorts lost $2.6M against $1.9M for longs. However, the four-hour window reversed the pattern: long liquidations were $493.8K, compared with $178.1K for shorts. The latest one-hour window was small at $38.0K, with $29.8K from shorts and $8.3K from longs.

Several larger short liquidations occurred above the current price, including $202.9K at $1,245.86, $190.7K at $1,235.87 and $189.2K at $1,261.03. Those levels mark a visible squeeze zone, but the presence of long liquidations at $1,214.80 for $182.2K also shows that downside leverage remains close to the market.

Positioning disagrees with active flow

The account-based long/short ratio is nearly balanced overall: 49.2% of accounts are long and 50.8% are short. Binance accounts lean short at 43.8% long, while OKX is also short-heavy at 41.5% long. Bybit is the exception, with 62.9% of accounts long. Active taker flow is more conflicted: Binance takers are 34.2% long versus 65.8% short, OKX takers are 57.8% long, and Gate takers are only 29.2% long. This divergence suggests traders are buying selectively while the largest active flow still sells into strength.

Verdict: The breakout remains conditional. $1,210.39 is the immediate pivot, $1,245.86 is the first squeeze-confirmation level, and $1,261.03 is the upper liquidation marker to watch against the $2.31B OI base. A sustained move above $1,261.03 with OI expanding from $2.31B would invalidate the fragile-breakout view; failure to reclaim $1,245.86 while OI continues to contract keeps the rebound vulnerable.
