AAVE +3.5% to $127: Hyperliquid OI Leads, Funding Flat

AAVE Recovers to $127 on a Quiet Tape

AAVE is back around $127, up 3.5% in the past 24 hours after holding a $122 low. Binance prints $127.10 and OKX shows $127.08, so the move is real across the two largest venues rather than a thin-orderbook spike. The 24-hour range sits between $122 and $129, calm compared with the double-digit swings hitting UNI and CRV on the same tape.

The interesting part is not the price, it is where the leverage went. Open interest across major exchanges stands at $301.5M, up 2.9% on the day. Hyperliquid now carries $74.6M of that, roughly 24.7% of the total, the largest single venue share. Bybit follows with $56.9M at 18.9%, while Binance has slipped to $54M at 17.9%, down 1.5% over 24 hours. MEXC is the fastest mover on the long side, adding 25.5%, though it gave some back in the last four hours.

Funding Says No Squeeze, Just New Positioning

Funding rates tell a different story than the price chart. The volume-weighted funding for the asset sits at 0.0019%, essentially flat. Binance prints 0.0036%, OKX is marginally negative at -0.0003%, and Bybit shows 0.01%. None of these levels suggest leveraged longs are paying up to stay in, which is why the rally reads as fresh spot-driven positioning rather than a short squeeze. The liquidation feed backs that up: AAVE does not appear among the top liquidation coins in the last 24 hours, with forced unwinds staying in the low six figures.

Why the Hyperliquid Lead Matters

Hyperliquid overtaking Binance in open interest share is a structural signal worth tracking. The venue runs fast funding cycles and its liquidation engine reacts quickly, so when it leads the book, the next flush can be sharper than on slower venues. Flat funding keeps that risk contained for now, but it also means the base is not crowded yet. That is usually how durable moves start: price ahead of leverage, not the other way around.

What to Watch Next

Two triggers decide whether this holds. First, Binance OI is still shrinking at -1.5%. If it turns positive while price holds $127, conviction is broadening beyond one venue. Second, funding: a sustained print above 0.01% with growing OI would signal the move is turning into a leveraged chase, which historically ends in a liquidation cascade. On the downside, a close below $122 breaks the recovery setup and puts the $118 area back in play.
