Algorand OI Climbs 15.8% as Funding Splits Across Major Venues

Algorand (ALGO) is showing a clear leverage expansion: price is $0.1269 after a 7.5% gain, while open interest has reached $72.5M, up 15.8% over 24 hours. Volume has risen 54.8% to $93.4M, meaning the move is being accompanied by materially higher participation rather than a thin spot bounce. The key question is whether the new exposure is constructive accumulation or crowded positioning vulnerable to a reversal.
Exchange concentration favors a broad build
Binance holds the largest reported ALGO OI share at 18.4%, with $13.4M and a 10.6% daily increase. Bybit follows with 14.8%, or $10.7M, but its daily gain is more modest at 2.3% and its four-hour change is negative at 0.7%. Bitget contributes 9.3% of OI, or $6.7M, after a 7.7% daily increase, while OKX accounts for 4.7%, or $3.4M, after an 8.9% rise.
The distribution matters because the surge is not isolated to one venue. Binance and Bitget are adding exposure at a faster pace than Bybit, while OKX shows a stronger recent four-hour pickup of 3.7%. Gate has only 1.4% share, but its OI is up 13.1% over 24 hours and 10.3% over four hours. That combination points to fresh leverage entering across several books, although the negative short-term change on Bybit warns that positioning is not moving in one uniform direction.
Funding is positive, but not uniformly crowded
The funding rate backdrop is mostly positive. Binance, Bybit, Bitget and several other venues show 0.01%, while Gate is lower at 0.001%. Coinbase is the outlier at 0.11%, suggesting a much more expensive long bias there. In contrast, CoinEx is at -0.01%, and Kraken is at -0.00%, showing that some venues are still pricing short-side demand or limited long enthusiasm.
That split is important alongside the aggregate positioning data. The broad account reading shows 59.7% of accounts long, versus 58.5% for active takers, so both groups lean long but taker flow is slightly less bullish. Binance's venue-specific long/short ratio is more defensive: 49.0% long accounts against 51.0% short accounts. The result is a mixed structure rather than a clean consensus trade—positive funding and rising OI support upside momentum, but Binance account positioning leaves room for short-covering and two-way volatility.
Short liquidations confirm immediate upside pressure
Liquidation data gives the strongest directional clue. Over 24 hours, short liquidations reached $143.9K versus only $18.4K for longs, out of $162.2K total. The imbalance was even sharper over 12 hours, with $138.1K in shorts liquidated against $9.1K in longs. Over four hours, however, long liquidations rose to $2.2K while shorts accounted for $435.3, suggesting the latest advance has begun to punish some late buyers without reversing the broader short squeeze.
The largest recorded event was an $88.3K short liquidation on Hyperliquid at $0.12522142. That price is close to the current market and makes $0.1252 an immediate structural reference. A break below it would show that the latest squeeze is losing traction, while sustained trade above $0.1269 with OI holding near $72.5M would keep the expansion thesis intact.
A recent market note described ALGO as range-bound with flat momentum and weakening open interest, but the current cross-venue snapshot shows the opposite in derivatives: OI is expanding and shorts have absorbed most of the forced-flow pressure.
Verdict: ALGO's near-term bias is cautiously bullish while price holds $0.1269, with $0.1252 as the key downside level and $72.5M as the OI benchmark. The view is invalidated if price loses $0.1252 while OI falls below $72.5M, which would signal that leverage is unwinding rather than fueling continuation.
