ASTER Longs Paid 75% of $2.33M Liq, OI Rises 11.4% to $383M

ASTER moved more than the flush suggests
ASTER traded down to $0.72 in the past 24 hours, climbed to a high near $0.867, and settled around $0.786 at the time of writing, still up about 6% on the day. Binance and OKX show nearly identical prints, with the 24h range confirmed on both books. What stands out is not the move itself but what happened underneath it.
Longs took the hit, and the hit was small
Total ASTER liquidations over 24 hours came to $2.33 million. Long positions accounted for about $1.75 million of that, roughly 75% of the wipe, while shorts lost only $582,000. The largest single event was a $297,800 long position closed on Binance near $0.793. For a token that swung more than 20% between low and high, the damage was modest. That matters because it tells you how much leverage had already been cleared in earlier sell-offs.
OI went up while the native venue deleveraged
Open interest for ASTER derivatives rose 11.4% in the same window to $382.7 million. The composition shifted. The aster native venue cut exposure by 14.5% to about $79.4 million, still 20.7% of total OI. Meanwhile Hyperliquid added 38% to reach $36.9 million, Binance added 16% to $101.1 million, and Bybit added 15.4% to $53.9 million. Money did not leave the complex. It rotated to other venues, which is a different signal from the classic post-flush unwind.
Funding stays mild, so the setup is two-sided
Per-8h funding rates sit near 0.005% on Binance, Bybit and Bitget, with Hyperliquid's hourly rate equivalent at roughly the same level. Nothing about funding suggests a crowded long book right now. Low funding after a long flush usually means the squeeze fuel is still there, but it also means shorts are not expensive to hold. The read for traders is simple: ASTER can still run toward the high if OI keeps building on Binance and Hyperliquid, and a retest of the $0.72 low would probably trigger another long flush, since OI is elevated again after today's rotation. Watching whether the native venue keeps cutting while Binance and Hyperliquid keep adding is the cleanest early warning for the next leg in either direction.
