ARB Surges 22% to $0.161: OI +25%, Hyperliquid Adds 85%

ARB broke higher while majors took a breather

ARB spent the past 24 hours climbing from a low near $0.129 to an intraday high of $0.1667 on both Binance and OKX, and it is changing hands around $0.161 at the time of writing. That works out to a 22% gain in a single day. The move stands out because Bitcoin only drifted sideways near $79,800 and ETH added about 1% over the same stretch. The token was the strongest mover among large-cap Layer 2 names, and the rally came with a clear rise in derivative activity rather than a quiet spot bid.

Open interest climbs 25% to $218M, Hyperliquid leads the add

Aggregate open interest across 18 exchanges rose 25.1% in 24 hours to $217.8M. Binance still holds the largest share at 23.97% ($52.2M, up 27.4% on the day). Bybit follows with $41.3M, up 22.3%. The standout is Hyperliquid: its open interest in the coin jumped 84.7% to $30.5M, with another 58.7% added in the past four hours alone. OKX added 22.6% to $14.1M. This looks like fresh positioning rather than pure short covering, because almost every venue grew at the same time.

Shorts took $2.95M in liquidations while funding stays mild

Liquidation data shows $3.23M in total liquidations for the coin over 24 hours, and 91% of that hit short positions: $2.95M against just $0.28M for longs across 1,503 orders. Funding rates tell a calmer story. Binance, OKX, Bybit, Gate and Bitget all sit at 0.01% per eight hours, and Hyperliquid is at 0.0079%. Positive funding at a mild level means longs are paying a little to hold, but positioning is not crowded enough to flash an overheating signal yet.

What to watch after the 22% run

Fresh open interest on a breakout cuts both ways. If the price clears $0.1667 on volume, the longs built over the past day have room to extend the move. If it fails, those same positions become fuel for a long squeeze, and leverage added this quickly tends to unwind just as fast. Funding at 0.01% across major venues still leaves room for longs to keep adding before carry turns expensive. The near-term question is straightforward: does the next push come with higher funding, or does open interest start to shed first?
