Bitcoin Holds $75.6K September Low as $42.2B Open Interest Barely Blinks

Bitcoin is sitting near $75,555, down 0.6% over the past 24 hours after printing a fresh September low, and the most striking thing about the move is what has not happened: futures open interest across major venues has slipped only 0.8% to $42.2 billion. A new monthly low with leverage refusing to leave the table is not a finished flush — it is an unresolved standoff.

News context: Cointelegraph reported that bitcoin's slide to the $75.6K area came as global bond yields pushed to multidecade highs, pressuring risk assets broadly.

Open interest is rotating, not shrinking

The venue-level breakdown shows rotation rather than capitulation. Binance, the largest book at a 19.3% share, trimmed open interest just 0.65% to $8.12 billion in 24 hours. Gate holds $5.07 billion (12.0% share, down 1.0%), Bitget cut 3.0% to $2.52 billion and OKX shed 2.6% to $2.15 billion. The outlier is Bybit, which added 3.7% to $4.36 billion while price was making a new low — someone is building positions into weakness, not running from it. Net across all venues, only about $340 million of exposure left the market.

The tape says longs paid for the move

Forced flows over the past day were lopsided: of $165.4 million in 24-hour BTC liquidations, $125.3 million hit longs versus $39.6 million on shorts, across roughly 7,500 separate events. The largest wipeouts printed at $74,076 on Binance and $74,916 on OKX — marking the zone where leveraged longs actually broke. Meanwhile the daily RSI sits at 48.4, a neutral reading, while the 4-hour RSI at 37.0 leans oversold. Volume ran $59.5 billion in 24 hours, up 7.5% on the day, so participation is rising into the low rather than drying up.

What settles the standoff

Our read: this is a market leaning short-term oversold with leverage still fully deployed, which cuts both ways. If $74,900–$75,100 — the band where the biggest long liquidations already fired — gives way, the intact $42.2 billion of open interest becomes fuel for a faster leg down. If price holds above that band while Bybit's accumulation continues, the setup favors a squeeze back toward the mid-$76Ks, where 64% of accounts are already positioned long and would defend. The signal to watch is open interest itself: a genuine 3–5% daily contraction would say the flush finally happened; another flat print says the standoff, and the two-sided risk, continues.
