BNB Open Interest Falls 1.3% as Negative Funding Meets Long Crowding

BNB is trading at $786.13 while aggregate open interest stands at $1.15B, down 1.3% over 24 hours. The sharper warning is in the funding rate: the average is -0.0257%, even as 69.3% of tracked accounts are long. That combination points to a crowded long side being charged unevenly across venues while leverage is gradually leaving the market.

Recent market commentary has increasingly described BNB as a crowded long trade facing a test, reinforcing the relevance of the derivatives imbalance rather than providing a standalone directional signal.

Negative funding is broad, but not uniform

Venue data shows that the negative average is not caused by every exchange pricing the same way. Binance is at 0.0113%, Bybit at 0.0100%, Bitget at 0.0100%, and OKX at 0.0100%. Smaller venues also remain positive, including Aster at 0.0113% and Coinbase at 0.0335%. Against that backdrop, CoinEx is the clear outlier at -0.7500%, while Bitfinex is flat at 0.0000%.

This split matters. The headline average is negative, but the larger listed venues mostly show positive carry. It suggests that downside pressure is concentrated in a particular venue or market segment, rather than representing a synchronized collapse in BNB perpetual pricing. Traders should therefore read the negative funding as a stress signal, not as proof that every long position is being forced out.

Open interest is retreating at the largest venue

The $1.15B total open interest is distributed unevenly. Binance controls 40.4% with $466.1M, followed by Gate at 17.4% and $200.7M, Bybit at 10.5% and $120.5M, and Bitget at 6.1% and $69.7M. Binance open interest fell 2.7% over 24 hours, while OKX dropped 2.8% on a 5.2% share. Bybit was almost unchanged, down 0.0%, and Bitget increased 0.4%.

The exchange split shows a defensive adjustment in the most important pool of leverage. Binance's four-hour change was also negative at 0.4%, while Bybit added 0.6% over the same window. That divergence leaves room for isolated long rebuilding, but the total market remains softer: aggregate open interest declined 1.27% over 24 hours.

Liquidations confirm a long-side vulnerability

The liquidation profile is decisively long-heavy over the full day. BNB recorded $429,884.47 in 24-hour liquidations, including $384,025.11 from longs and $45,859.36 from shorts. The shorter windows are less one-sided: four-hour liquidations reached $8,392.35, with $3,517.43 in longs and $4,874.92 in shorts, while the twelve-hour window showed $49,327.85 in longs against $30,047.64 in shorts.

The largest reported event was a Binance long liquidation worth $197,548.92 at $782.31. Another Binance long liquidation reached $22,913.83 at $776.74, while a short liquidation worth $20,950.63 appeared at $786.14. These levels frame the immediate squeeze zone: the market has already punished longs below spot, but a move back through the upper level could still pressure shorts if positioning flips too quickly.

Accounts lean long while takers sell

The long/short ratio adds the clearest contradiction. Account positioning is long on Binance at 69.2%, OKX at 70.6%, Bybit at 73.8%, and Gate at 64.7%. Yet Binance taker flow is short-biased, with 45.8% long and 54.2% short. Gate is the exception, with takers 64.2% long and 35.8% short.

That account-versus-taker gap says passive positioning remains bullish while active execution is more defensive. In a negative-funding setup, this is a fragile structure: longs are numerous, but sellers are more willing to hit the market on Binance.

Verdict: The near-term bias remains downside-sensitive while BNB is below $786.14, with $782.31 and $776.74 as the key liquidation levels and $1.15B as the aggregate open-interest reference. The bearish view is invalidated if BNB sustains above $786.14 while total open interest rises above $1.15B, showing that fresh leverage is supporting the breakout rather than merely closing positions.
