BTC ETF -$236.5M: AUM Drops to $97.1B, ETH/SOL Inflow

BTC ETF Flips to a $236.5M Outflow Day

Bitcoin spot ETFs recorded $236.5 million in net outflows on Tuesday, September 1, the second negative session in the past five trading days. Total AUM slipped to $97.12 billion, dropping back below the $100 billion line it crossed only last week. The move erased most of Monday's $216.7 million inflow, leaving the week's net flow roughly flat so far.

The distribution was broad: outflows touched most of the major issuers, though no single fund stood out. August 28 had already seen $201.8 million leave BTC ETFs, so the current pattern reads as a two-step cool-down rather than a one-off dip.

ETH and SOL ETFs Keep Adding

While BTC funds pulled back, the other two actively traded ETF assets stayed in positive territory. ETH ETFs took in $10.95 million on the same day, pushing their AUM to $15.21 billion. SOL ETFs added $10.19 million, with AUM at $1.39 billion. Over the last seven sessions, ETH ETFs have accumulated $923 million and SOL ETFs $165 million, both comfortably positive even after Tuesday.

The contrast matters: capital is not leaving the crypto ETF complex as a whole, it is rotating between assets. BTC ETFs remain the largest block by a wide margin, but their share of fresh flows has thinned over the past week.

Price Tape: BTC $77.4K, ETH $2,411, SOL $99.9

Tuesday's ETF outflows came with a red tape. BTC traded at $77,400 on Binance and $77,398 on OKX, down about 1.8% over 24 hours. ETH sat at $2,411 on both venues, off 2.6%. SOL was the weakest of the three, down 3.7% to $99.90. The 24-hour ranges were wide: BTC swung between $76,368 and $79,196, while ETH ranged $2,381 to $2,485.

Part of the AUM drop is mark-to-market: a falling BTC price shrinks fund holdings even when nobody sells. The $97.1 billion figure therefore overstates the true outflow impact. When ETF flows and price move in the same direction for BTC, the market reads it as conviction leaving, which is exactly what happened this week.

What the Flip Signals

One outflow day does not break a trend, but two in five sessions is worth watching. BTC ETF AUM is still $97.1 billion and seven-day cumulative flow sits at plus $904.7 million, so the base remains healthy. What changed is the marginal buyer: spot demand cooled at a time when derivatives showed longs getting flushed, with 24-hour liquidations at $311 million and 81% of them longs.

For traders, the takeaway is to track whether ETH and SOL keep their inflow streaks. If rotation continues while BTC funds bleed small amounts, it points to profit-taking in the largest asset rather than a sector-wide exit. A third consecutive BTC outflow day would shift that read toward caution.
