KORU -9.5% to $19.13: OI Sheds 12% as Korea 3x ETF Slides

KORU Perp Slide Tracks the Korea Equity Pullback

KORU perpetuals fell 9.5% to $19.13 in the past 24 hours as the underlying Direxion Daily MSCI South Korea Bull 3X ETF followed Korean large caps lower. Binance and OKX both quote $19.13, with a 24-hour band of $21.52 to $18.79, a swing near 13% for the leveraged instrument. The drop lines up with the index heavyweights: SK Hynix is down about 4.7% and Samsung Electronics about 3.7% on the day.

KORU targets three times the daily return of the MSCI Korea 25/50 Index. When the underlying basket sells off, the leveraged product amplifies the move, and the perp market that tracks it inherits that volatility.

Open Interest Shrinks 12% as Bitget Carries the Book

Total open interest across venues slipped to $67 million, down 12.2% in 24 hours. Bitget holds $42.6 million of that, a 63.5% share, and its own book is down only 4.3%, so the largest venue is holding relatively firm. The deleveraging is sharper elsewhere: Bybit OI fell 29.5%, MEXC cut 41.1%, and OKX shed 13.8%. Gate is the outlier, adding 35.8% into the slide.

The pattern points to crowding unwinding at the smaller venues while the main book stays put. For anyone watching the perp, that split is a rough gauge of who is still willing to carry risk.

Funding Turns Positive: Longs Pay to Stay

Funding across KORU perps has flipped mildly positive. The average rate sits near 0.014% per interval, with Binance printing 0.035%. Positive funding means leveraged longs pay shorts a fee to keep positions open. After a sharp markdown, that structure is a sign dip buyers are paying up instead of bailing out. It can put a floor under the trade, but it also leaves longs exposed if Korean equities keep sliding.

What to Watch Next

KORU is a daily rebalanced product. Holding it overnight does not simply capture three times the index move; compounding and rebalancing costs bleed value in choppy tape. The useful checkpoints are the MSCI Korea index itself, chip names like SK Hynix and Samsung, and whether Bitget OI holds while funding stays positive. If the index stabilizes, the perp can snap back hard, because 3x products exaggerate both directions. If it breaks lower, the still-positive funding gives shorts less reason to cover quickly.
