ETH Longs Paid 75% of $125.5M Wipe: OI Only -3.1%

ETH Retraces From $2,548 as Longs Get Squeezed
ETH climbed toward $2,548 early in the day, then gave back the gains and settled near $2,451. Binance quotes $2,450.79, down 1.85%, with a 24-hour range of $2,430.67 to $2,547.00; OKX shows $2,451.51 with the same picture. The pullback cleared $125.5M in ETH positions across major venues over 24 hours, and long accounts carried $94.3M of it, roughly 75%.
That is a long flush, but it is softer than Thursday's move. In the earlier squeeze ETH shorts were the ones paying, and the funding market has not flipped: perpetual rates stay positive on Binance at 0.0022%, on OKX at 0.0046% and on Bybit at 0.0028%. Longs are still paying to hold, which signals the crowd has not given up on the upside.
Open Interest Drops Only 3.1% to $24.3B
ETH open interest across 22 venues totals $24.3B, down 3.1% in 24 hours. The retreat is uneven. Binance shed 3.8%, OKX 5.8%, Bybit 5.7% and Gate 5.2%, but Hyperliquid dipped just 0.8%, Bitget 1.4% and Deribit 0.9%, with CME flat. Derivatives desks are trimming risk, yet the biggest venue cuts are modest and speculative layers on Hyperliquid and Deribit barely moved.
Venue Split: Binance Still Carries the Book
Binance holds $5.51B of ETH open interest, 22.7% of the market, ahead of CME at $2.96B, Gate at $2.56B, Hyperliquid at $2.21B and Bitget at $1.91B. OKX sits at $1.47B after the steepest cut. The distribution explains why the flush did not cascade: no single venue dominates enough to force a spiral, and funding has not gone negative anywhere, so leveraged longs are being squeezed in price but not forced out of positions.
What to Watch Next
The key level is the $2,430 low. ETH held it during the flush and bounced, and the 4-hour liquidation window has already flipped toward shorts, with $3.9M of shorts cleared against $2.9M of longs. If ETH defends $2,430 with funding staying positive, the pullback reads as profit-taking inside an uptrend. A daily close below $2,430 with OI dropping faster would argue the opposite. Either way, funding is the tell: as long as longs pay to stay long, this market is not bearish yet.
