MU Perp Breaks $1,000: OI +10.9%, Funding Still Zero

MU clears $1,000 as the chip rally rolls on

The MU perpetual broke through the $1,000 round number in early Asia hours. Binance shows the contract at $1,014.38, up 6.2% over 24 hours, with OKX matching at $1,014.21 and a 6.19% gain. The move follows a wide session: Binance printed a 24-hour range of $953.65 to $1,018.31, so the contract first gave back ground, then reclaimed it and pushed into new territory. The breakout is not isolated. SanDisk (SNDK) perps are up 11.7% to $1,731.93 on Binance, Marvell (MRVL) added 6.5% to $222.24, and Samsung perps rose 6.1% to $198.35, all confirmed on OKX with nearly identical prints. Memory and semiconductor names are moving as one group today.

Open interest is up 10.9%, but the build is uneven

Total open interest on MU perps sits at $172.5M, up 10.85% in 24 hours. Where that leverage went matters. Gate remains the largest venue with $62.5M, a 36.2% share, yet Gate's OI moved only 1.3% today. The growth came from the middle of the pack: Bitget added 26.6% to $20.6M, WhiteBIT climbed 20.7% to $31.0M, and OKX rose 14.7% to $30.7M. Bybit, at 10.2% share, gained 12.1%. The dominant venue is not adding while smaller ones chase the move, which is a split structure rather than a uniform leverage flood. When the biggest holder of risk stays flat through a breakout, the conviction behind the new longs is concentrated elsewhere.

Funding still reads zero

The other notable detail is the funding rate. Weighted by open interest it sits at 0.000028%, and most venues show zero or near-zero prints. A breakout above a big round number usually drags funding positive as leveraged longs pile in and shorts start paying. That has not happened yet. The rally is running on spot buying and fresh positioning that has not reached the point of crowding. It also means there is no short-side rent being collected, and no warning signal from an overheated funding gauge.

What to watch from here

For traders the setup comes down to follow-through. A hold above $1,000 with funding turning positive would confirm that leverage is joining the move, and the next stop is the $1,018 high. A fade back under the round number with OI rolling over would look more like a squeeze that ran out of buyers. The uneven OI split is the thing to track: if Gate starts adding, the move gets broader. If only the mid-tier venues keep buying, the rally rests on a thinner base than the price suggests. MU trading at four figures also lifts the whole memory complex, so SNDK, MRVL and Samsung perps are the read-across to watch in the same session.
