Ethena ENA Jumps 19.7% as Open Interest Reaches $770.6M

Ethena’s ENA is trading at $0.28115 after a 19.7% rise, with total open interest at $765.98M, up 28.2% over 24 hours. The move has the classic breakout signature of price expansion accompanied by fresh leverage, but the latest one-hour OI change is -0.4%, suggesting momentum has paused after the initial build-up.

Recent market context points to Ethena extending USDe’s basis strategy toward tokenized equities through Binance, adding a broader narrative behind the sharp repricing. The derivatives data, however, shows that the immediate driver is positioning and forced covering rather than a uniformly aggressive wave of new taker longs.

OI is broad, but concentration matters

Binance holds $169.3M of ENA OI, or 22.1% of the tracked total, after a 22.2% 24-hour increase and a 5.4% rise over four hours. Bybit is close behind at $144.9M and 18.9% share, with much stronger momentum: OI climbed 38.3% in 24 hours and 8.0% over four hours.

The next meaningful pockets are Gate at $64.7M, representing 8.4% of OI after a 67.8% daily jump, and Bitget at $60.0M, with a 7.8% share and a 16.6% increase. This distribution matters for the breakout: participation is not isolated to one venue, while Gate’s acceleration shows that smaller concentration can still add leverage quickly. At the same time, the one-hour contraction in aggregate OI warns that the latest price push is not yet being confirmed by continuously rising exposure.

Funding is split beneath the headline rally

The funding rate map is notably uneven. Binance, Bybit, Gate and Aster each show 0.005%, while Bitfinex is much richer at 0.033901%. Bitget is negative at -0.0169%, and CoinEx is an extreme -0.449151%. Other positive readings include OKX at 0.005%, Coinbase at 0.0095% and Backpack at 0.010506%.

This spread does not describe a clean, market-wide long rush. Some venues are charging longs, but negative funding at Bitget and especially CoinEx indicates that short exposure remains active in parts of the market. The ticker’s average funding rate is also negative at -0.016374%, reinforcing the view that the price breakout has been helped by short pressure rather than simply by expensive long leverage.

Accounts lean long while takers sell

The long/short ratio creates the clearest internal contradiction. Account positioning is long-heavy on Binance at 62.1%, Bybit at 63.8%, Bitget at 61.9% and Gate at 54.4%. The aggregate account reading is 58.0% long. Yet active taker flow is short-heavy on Binance at 36.8% long, versus 63.2% short, and on Gate at 35.2% long versus 64.8% short. OKX is the exception, with takers at 52.3% long.

That account-versus-taker split fits the liquidation profile. In the last 24 hours, liquidations totaled $6.1M, including $5.1M of shorts and $1.1M of longs. Over four hours, short liquidations reached $683.5K against $144.8K for longs. The largest recorded event was a $379.2K Binance short liquidation at $0.25083, followed by $159.6K at $0.26586 and $146.4K at $0.27401. These levels show that the rally has already cleared several short-risk zones, but also identify where a retracement could test whether the breakout has real support.

Verdict

The bullish breakout remains valid while ENA holds above the $0.27401 liquidation level and total OI stays near or above $765.98M. A push beyond $0.28115 with OI rebuilding after the -0.4% one-hour dip would confirm stronger continuation; the key invalidation signal is a close below $0.27401 combined with OI falling below $765.98M. That would indicate short covering has faded and the breakout lacks fresh derivatives sponsorship.
