ONDO: $526M Open Interest Meets 0.030% Funding and 71.8% Longs

Ondo derivatives are showing a crowded funding profile: aggregated open interest is $525.8M, up 2.1% over 24 hours, while the average 8-hour funding rate is approximately 0.030%. The positioning is not one-directional beneath the surface. Long accounts dominate at 71.8%, yet active takers are heavily short, making ONDO vulnerable to a sharp squeeze in either direction if the imbalance resolves.

News coverage has also highlighted expanded access to tokenized BlackRock portfolio strategies for non-US traders, adding a broader market narrative around the asset.

OI concentration is broad, but Gate is the outlier

Binance carries $100.9M of ONDO open interest, representing 19.2% of the tracked total, while Bybit holds $100.4M, or 19.1%. Those two venues therefore provide the main liquidity anchors, but their positioning is moving differently: Binance open interest is down 2.3% over 24 hours, while Bybit is up 3.2%. OKX contributes $25.6M, or 4.9%, and is also down 1.4% over the same period.

The more important hotspot is Gate. Its $70.0M position represents 13.3% of aggregated open interest, but it has expanded 33.9% in 24 hours and 6.3% over the latest 4-hour window. Bitget, by contrast, holds $33.9M, or 6.4%, while its open interest has declined 1.3% over 24 hours. The concentration is therefore meaningful, but the growth is being driven by a smaller venue rather than uniformly across the largest books.

Funding is positive, while takers lean short

Funding is positive on most major venues, with Binance, Bybit, OKX, Bitget and several other exchanges at 0.005%. Gate is lower at 0.0033%, while Coinbase is 0.003% and Hyperliquid is 0.00125%. The visible outlier is CoinEx at 0.573328%, although its reported open interest is only $67,090.60, or 0.01% of the total. Bitfinex is also elevated at 0.019068%, but its position is only $227,199.04.

This matters because the account data looks much more bullish than the active flow. Binance has 64.8% of accounts long, OKX 70.6%, Bybit 73.7%, Bitget 83.0% and Gate 67.2%. Yet the taker long/short split on Binance is 21.7% long versus 78.4% short, and Gate is 19.0% long versus 81.0% short. Passive positioning is crowded long, but aggressive traders are selling into it. That divergence can support a short squeeze if price holds, but it also signals that long accounts are providing liquidity for short-side execution.

Liquidations show long-side fragility

ONDO liquidations totaled $1.6M over 24 hours, with $981,073.30 from longs and $625,802.27 from shorts. The imbalance is less severe in the shorter windows: the latest hour recorded $53,616.45 in long liquidations against $13,144.35 in shorts, while the latest 4-hour window showed $69,838.15 versus $58,883.48. Over 12 hours, longs accounted for $124,975.64 and shorts $108,905.61.

The largest recorded liquidation levels mark a practical map. Long positions were forced out at $0.5374 and $0.5311, while short liquidations appeared at $0.55063546, $0.55303526 and $0.55402356. With spot at $0.5512, the market is sitting inside that contested zone: close enough to trigger short liquidations above the recent cluster, but still exposed to long deleveraging below the lower levels.

Verdict: ONDO has a crowded long-account structure, positive funding and rising Gate exposure, but the 78.4% to 81.0% short taker flow warns that upside could be squeeze-driven rather than broadly confirmed. The key bullish test is a move through $0.55402356 while total open interest holds above $525.8M; a failure below $0.5374, especially with open interest still above $525.8M, would invalidate the squeeze thesis and favor long-side unwinding toward $0.5311. Data as of 20:12 Beijing time on Sep 26, covering Binance, OKX, Bybit and other major venues.
