FIL pushes higher while most majors fade

FIL is trading at $0.711, up 6.2% in 24 hours, at a moment when BTC sits at $77,868 (-0.81%) and ETH at $2,444 (-1.0%). The move stands out because it is not a leveraged spike: open interest across the main venues rose 7.6% to $91.0 million, and the bulk of that build came from Binance, whose OI is up 10.25% to $37.9 million and now holds 41.7% of the market.

Open interest climbs on Binance, OKX follows

Binance is not the only venue adding positions. OKX OI grew 7.94% to $11.6 million, Bybit added 6.38% to $10.1 million, and Bitget rose 7.87% to $7.6 million. The four-hour reads are still green across the board, with Binance up 3.18% and OKX up 2.91% in the last four hours alone, which suggests the build is ongoing rather than a one-off print. Total OI of $91.0 million is a meaningful level for the token, which has spent most of August below $80 million in notional exposure. Gate, the smallest of the top venues at $3.6 million, is the only major exchange showing a negative four-hour change at -4.5%, a minor divergence that has not slowed the overall trend.

Put the numbers side by side: Binance contributes $37.9 million of the $91.0 million total, OKX $11.6 million, Bybit $10.1 million, Bitget $7.6 million, and Gate $3.6 million. The top five venues account for roughly 78% of all FIL notional, so when they move together, the price follows. This is exactly what happened over the past day, and the fact that the build is spread across venues rather than concentrated in one exchange makes it harder to dismiss as a single market maker's positioning.

Funding stays mild, no crowded long signal yet

Funding rates across venues are still calm. Binance charges 0.0095% per eight hours, Bybit 0.01%, Gate 0.007%, and Hyperliquid 0.00125%. A 6.2% price gain with sub-0.01% funding is the signature of fresh spot and derivative demand rather than a crowded long trade. Perpetual traders are not yet paying a premium to hold longs, which leaves room for the move to extend without the usual squeeze-fueled blowoff. For comparison, when Filecoin ran up hard in late July, funding climbed past 0.05% before the pullback, and nothing close to that is priced in right now.

What to watch

The key level to track is $0.7147, the 24-hour high on Binance, with OKX showing $0.7141. A break above it with OI continuing to climb would confirm the trend; a rejection that sends OI back below $85 million would suggest the build was mostly short-covering. FIL's 24-hour range sits between $0.6651 and $0.7147, so a move beyond either side will set the tone for the next session. Volume on Binance is $97.7 million in 24 hours, roughly in line with recent days, meaning the rally is not starving for participation. If the funding rate stays below 0.02% while price holds above $0.70, longs can keep the position without paying much carry, which is the setup bulls usually want to see.
