ZORA -19.6% to $0.008: OI Sheds 30.5%, MEXC Adds 15%

ZORA Slides 19.6% From a $0.0101 High
ZORA, the token of the Ethereum NFT platform Zora Network, dropped 19.6% in the last 24 hours to $0.00795, giving back most of its recent run. Binance and OKX both put the 24-hour range at $0.00773-$0.0101, and the two exchanges are in close agreement on the move, so the sell-off is broad rather than a quirk of one venue. Volume stayed heavy at roughly $112M on Binance alone, which points to real distribution instead of a thin-order-book slide.
OI Sheds 30.5%: Binance and OKX Lead the Unwind
Open interest across all tracked venues fell 30.5% to $21.4M. Binance cut its positions by 43.6% and OKX by 57.4%, while Bybit trimmed 30.8%. KuCoin, still the largest venue at 20.4% of total OI, barely moved at -2.8%. The outlier is MEXC, which added 15.2% of OI over the same window. Liquidation data shows $536K of the $792K total in the last day was longs, so the first wave of damage hit leveraged buyers, and the rest of the unwind looks like position exits rather than fresh shorting.
Negative Funding Persists While One Venue Builds
Funding rates are negative on every major venue, with Binance at -0.138% per interval and OKX, Bybit, and Gate all in negative territory. That means shorts are still paying to hold after a 19.6% drop, which is unusual. A crowded short side plus one venue quietly adding OI is the kind of setup that can produce a fast squeeze, but only if spot buyers show up; the -30.5% OI cut says most leveraged players have already left the board.
What This Means
The read here is that the crash was a leverage unwind first and a price breakdown second. The heavy OI reduction shrinks the pool of forced sellers, and negative funding adds a mild contrarian tailwind. Watch whether MEXC's build continues and whether funding flips positive on a bounce; until then, the path of least resistance is still down while volume confirms the distribution. Data as of 23:09 Beijing time Sep 1, covering Binance, OKX, Bybit, Hyperliquid, Gate, Bitget, MEXC, KuCoin and other major exchanges.
