HYPE Dips to $82, OI Rebuilds +2.8% on Binance

HYPE price slips while open interest turns back up
HYPE traded near $82.04 at the time of writing, down about 3% over the past 24 hours, with a session range of $80.60 to $84.85 on Binance. The pullback is part of a broader risk-off move that hit most large-cap altcoins overnight. Total open interest across exchanges sits at $3.19 billion, down 5.6% on the day after a stretch of aggressive deleveraging on August 29, when HYPE lost more than 8% and venues cut positions by 13%.
The fresh detail is the last four hours. Binance HYPE open interest is up 2.8%, OKX is up 2.0%, and Bybit is up 1.6%, even as the price keeps drifting lower. Short-term traders are putting leverage back on into weakness rather than chasing the bounce, which is the opposite of what usually happens during a flush.
Funding sits near zero across major venues
Funding rates are flat across the board. Binance shows 0.005% per 8-hour interval, OKX 0.01%, and Hyperliquid 0.00125% on the 1-hour cadence. That is close to neutral, so the added positions are not being paid to take one side. When funding is this calm after a 5% drawdown, the rebuild tends to be positioning rather than conviction, and it can unwind just as fast if the price breaks lower.
Bitget is the outlier, adding 3.2% of open interest over 24 hours while everyone else cut. Gate and Hyperliquid both trimmed more than 7% on the day and are still flat in the last four hours, so the rebuild is not uniform across venues.
Liquidations are small, and longs are the ones paying
HYPE liquidations over the past 24 hours total just $1.73 million, with longs accounting for 83% of that figure. Compare that with the August 29 flush, when the same coin generated eight-figure liquidation volume. The market has gone quiet, and the small size of the recent liquidations means most of the weak hands were already cleared out during the earlier unwind.
With price down 3% and open interest turning back up, the immediate question is whether this is a base before another push or a setup for another leg down. The funding profile gives no clear edge, so the meaningful levels are the $80.60 low and the $84.85 high from the current session. A close through either one would likely decide the direction for the next few days.
