Hyperliquid 40x BTC Whale Wiped $5.1M in 8 Minutes

8 minutes, two forced closes
A Hyperliquid whale running 40x leverage on BTC got hit twice in quick succession this morning. The wallet 0x90b5e0c5ca3b0c0c47b575b0f62c07eb8b39b010 lost a $2.84M long at $79,153, then eight minutes later a $2.27M long was force-closed at $78,946. Combined, the two liquidations wiped out roughly $5.11M of margin. The timing lines up with BTC sliding toward its 24-hour low near $78,920, where bids finally stepped in.
A losing pattern, not a lucky whale
This is not one of those hyperliquid addresses with a pristine win rate. Over the last 13 days the account closed 639 trades and won 166 of them, a 26% hit rate, while realizing about $2.22M in losses. Total trading volume across its lifetime sits near $1.76B on roughly 14,600 fills, with a max single fill around $9.88M. Heavy turnover, low accuracy, and high leverage is the pattern. The account has now been liquidated three times in total, and two of those came today.
114.9 BTC still on the table
After the dust settled the whale did not close the book. It still holds a 114.9 BTC long opened near $79,925, worth about $9.1M at last check, funded with roughly $228K of margin at 40x cross leverage. The position is already underwater by about $55K. More importantly, its liquidation price sits at $78,757, less than 1% below the current price near $79,450. A dip of roughly $700 would put that $9.1M position in danger. The account's remaining equity is around $192K, so another forced close on this size would effectively end the show.
What it means for the market
The two wipes at $79,150 and $78,950 show where leveraged long leverage got concentrated during the recent squeeze. Those levels now act as a reference zone: as long as BTC holds above the $78,750-79,000 band, the open 40x long can keep breathing, but a break below it risks a cascade because roughly $9.1M of notional is stacked on one thin margin base. For traders, the takeaway is that large liquidations do not always clear the market. This whale kept re-entering after getting stopped out, which is a reminder that funding and open interest matter more than a single wallet's story.
