VIRTUAL +6.5% to $0.726: OI Jumps 17.5%, MEXC Adds 67%

VIRTUAL climbs to $0.726 as open interest builds 17.5%
VIRTUAL perpetuals traded at $0.726 at snapshot time, up 6.5% over 24 hours on Binance and 6.5% on OKX, with the session ranging between roughly $0.673 and $0.740 on both venues. The price move is moderate, but the leverage behind it is not. Aggregate open interest across 16 exchanges reached $84.7 million, a 17.5% jump in one day, and the build happened while BTC stayed flat near $79,600. That makes this an alt-specific inflow rather than a beta rally.
Where the new leverage came from
The distribution of new positions tells a clearer story than the headline number. MEXC added the most in percentage terms, with its VIRTUAL open interest up 66.6% to $16.9 million, lifting its share of the market to about 20%. Bybit followed with a 29.6% gain to $17.6 million, while Binance, the largest venue at $18.1 million, grew a steadier 11%. Hyperliquid held roughly flat at $10.5 million with a 0.6% change. On the other side, KuCoin trimmed 7.2% and OKX cut 8.5%, both giving back earlier exposure.
Funding stays cold while positions grow
What makes this build notable is the pricing. Funding rates on Binance, Bybit, Bitget, Gate and MEXC all sat near 0.005% per interval, and the open-interest-weighted average was around 0.0045%. New longs are not paying a premium to hold, which means the market has not turned euphoric on this move. The flip side is that aggressive positions added at these levels carry little cushion if momentum stalls, since no one is being compensated for crowding risk yet.
4H flows cool after the first chase
Shorter-window data suggests the initial wave of buying already peaked. Over the last four hours, open interest ticked down at the biggest venues: Binance -2.4%, Bybit -0.7%, and MEXC -6.6% after its steep 24-hour run. Hyperliquid added a marginal 0.8%. That pattern, a sharp build followed by an immediate cooling, points to momentum chasing rather than committed accumulation. For traders watching VIRTUAL, the level to monitor is whether open interest stabilizes near $84.7 million or rolls over, since a flat funding rate combined with shrinking positions usually signals the move is losing its engine.
