MAGMA +38%: OI Jumps 72%, Funding Turns Positive

MAGMA Rallies 38%, Open Interest Jumps 72%

MAGMA, the token of Sui-based DeFi protocol Magma Finance, climbed 38% in 24 hours to $0.343 as of 22:28 Beijing time. The move was not a quiet drift: aggregate open interest across seven venues rose 72.4% to $27.8 million, one of the sharpest OI expansions in the market today.

The rally carried real volume. Binance spot saw $80.7 million in 24-hour turnover, and the high-low range of $0.246 to $0.369 shows the move built on steady buying rather than a single spike. Every major venue moved in the same direction, with prices clustered tightly between $0.343 and $0.349, so this was a broad repricing, not a thin-market artifact.

Fresh Longs, Not Just Shorts Squeezed

OI growth of this size usually means new positions, and the funding data supports that read. The average funding rate across venues sits near 0.031%, with Binance at 0.045% and Bybit at 0.033%, both firmly positive after recent periods where new listings often carried negative funding. Positive funding means longs are paying shorts to hold, which is the classic signature of buyers opening positions at current levels.

Binance added 97% of its OI in 24 hours and now holds 29.8% of the total. MEXC remains the largest venue at 39.1% of open interest after a 42% increase. Bybit grew 127%, and the smaller venues grew even faster in percentage terms, with Aster up 214% and KuCoin up 108%.

What the Leverage Build Means

When OI and price rise together with positive funding, leverage is chasing the trend. That works while momentum holds, but it also means the position base is more fragile. A sharp pullback would find crowded longs on the wrong side, and with funding positive, the cost of holding those positions rises each cycle.

For traders, the useful signal is that the market is paying for upside conviction, not borrowing it. That is a healthier setup than the negative-funding rallies seen in several small caps this week, where price rose while the position base stayed skeptical.

Watch Levels and Exit Pressure

The 24-hour high sits at $0.3685. A break above that level with OI still expanding would signal another leg of leverage-driven buying. Below, the first zone to watch is $0.31, roughly the area where the recent acceleration began; losing that would put the 4-hour OI trend under pressure.
