THORChain RUNE: 86.9% Taker Longs Clash With 52.7% Long Accounts

THORChain RUNE is showing a sharp positioning divergence: taker flow is 86.9% long, yet only 52.7% of tracked Binance accounts are long, while aggregate open interest sits near $17.3M after falling 1.2% over 24 hours. At $0.6828, the market is not displaying the clean confirmation normally expected when aggressive buyers control the tape.

Market context also includes a report that a stablecoin issuer temporarily restricted funds connected with THORChain vaults before reversing the action later.

Open interest is concentrated, but retreating

The open interest picture is led by Binance at $4.9M, representing 28.3% of the tracked total, followed by Bybit at $3.2M and an 18.8% share. Bitget contributes $1.5M, or 8.8%, while Hyperliquid holds $1.8M and 10.3%. These venues account for the most meaningful positioning, but their changes point in the same defensive direction.

Binance open interest is down 0.9% over 24 hours and 1.0% over four hours. Bybit is weaker, declining 3.0% over 24 hours and 1.2% over four hours. Bitget has dropped 2.1% daily, while Hyperliquid is down 1.7%. Gate is the exception, adding 0.1% daily, but its $0.7M position represents only 4.1% of the tracked total. The implication is that the largest books are reducing exposure while a smaller venue is marginally adding it.

Funding confirms a split market

The funding rate map is not uniform enough to support a broad bullish read. Coinbase is the strongest positive outlier at 0.1% after one-decimal rounding. Bitget, Gate, KuCoin and WhiteBIT are also positive, while Binance, Bitget and Gate remain positive but round to 0.0% at the requested precision. Bybit is negative and Kraken is also negative, creating a meaningful contrast between venues.

That split matters because the 86.9% taker-long reading could otherwise be interpreted as broad demand. Instead, the aggressive side appears concentrated in execution flow, while funding shows that some venues are not paying to maintain long exposure. The account ratio is much more balanced at 51.0% long and 49.0% short on Binance, reinforcing the gap between active buying and broader participant positioning.

Liquidations offer no confirmation

The liquidation data is unusually quiet. Every reported window from one hour through 24 hours shows $0.0 in long liquidations, $0.0 in short liquidations and $0.0 total liquidations. The ticker-level 24-hour liquidation figure is $1.5K, but that small aggregate does not identify a directional flush or squeeze.

With no recorded liquidation imbalance, the market has not yet forced the crowded side to capitulate. That makes the falling open interest more consistent with position reduction than with a completed short squeeze. It also leaves the high taker-long ratio vulnerable if buyers fail to convert aggression into sustained price and open-interest expansion.

Verdict: The key reference price is $0.6828, with $17.3M as the current open-interest threshold. The near-term bias remains fragile to bearish while major venues continue cutting exposure and taker longs stay far above long accounts. This view would be invalidated if RUNE holds above $0.6828 while open interest expands from $17.3M and funding becomes consistently positive across the major venues.
