TRX Price Drops as Open Interest Rises

TRX slipped 2.9% to $0.323 on Binance over the last 24 hours, with a high of $0.334 and a low of $0.3226. OKX showed the same tape at $0.3231. The decline is modest next to BTC's 1.5% slide to $77,500 and ETH's 1.5% drop to $2,428, yet TRX's positioning moved the other way. Total open interest across exchanges rose 13.96% to $256.3 million, the biggest build in weeks after OI had sat near $236 million since late August.

Where the New Positions Went

Binance remains the largest venue with $95.7 million in OI, up 10.65%, holding a 37.3% share. Bybit added 12.49% to reach $54.2 million. The outlier is Gate, where OI jumped 95.9% to $7.8 million, though it still accounts for only 3% of the total. OKX grew 23% to $18 million. The build is broad, which points to fresh positioning rather than one exchange pulling the number up on its own.

Longs Paid 98% of Liquidations

Liquidation data shows $631K wiped from TRX perpetuals in 24 hours across 175 orders, with longs contributing $620K, or 98.2%. Shorts lost just $11.4K. That is a one-sided flush, and it matches the price path: leveraged buyers who chased the move into the $0.334 high got stopped out as the price rolled over. The dollar figure is small in absolute terms, but the direction is clean.

Negative Funding, Crowded Shorts

Funding on TRX is negative across the board, averaging -0.0014% per 8 hours. Binance sits at -0.0025%, Bybit at -0.003%, Bitget at -0.0025%. Negative funding means shorts pay longs to hold, which usually builds when short positioning is crowded. Here is the twist: shorts got paid while longs got liquidated, because the price kept sliding. That is a warning, not a confirmation. If the flush clears the weak long book and the price stabilizes, the same crowd of shorts is now exposed to a bounce. The setup mirrors what played out on several majors this week, where squeezes followed long-flush windows.

What to Watch

The 24-hour high of $0.334 is the level to track. A reclaim with OI still climbing would push shorts into covering, and negative funding gives longs a small carry edge. A break below the $0.3226 low, on the other hand, would validate the fresh short positioning and likely pull OI lower as leveraged accounts exit. Either way, the next move should be fast, because positioning is now stacked on one side.
