UNI OI Rebuilds to $274M as Price Lags at $4.38

UNI leverage is building again while the price does little
UNI open interest sits at $274 million after a 2.8% rise in 24 hours, according to the latest derivatives snapshot. The spot price is $4.38, only 0.8% above the session low of $4.34 on major venues. Leverage is being added, but the token has not followed, which is the opposite of what a squeeze setup usually looks like.
Funding stays flat, so this is not crowded longs yet
The funding rate across top venues holds at 0.01%, with Binance and OKX both printing the same number. When OI rises without funding climbing, the new positions are not all on one side. It points to fresh building on both sides rather than a one-way bet, which keeps the risk of a violent unwind lower than in late July, when funding ran well above 0.05%.
Binance leads the rebuild, OKX and Bybit add too
Binance OI is up 1.6% to $80 million, OKX is up 7.3% to $23.9 million, and Bybit holds $45 million with a 1.9% gain. Hyperliquid remains a secondary venue for UNI at $11 million, still far below the $200 million+ books on the majors. The increase is broad rather than concentrated, another sign the move is positioning, not panic.
Liquidations stay quiet at $2.8M, no flush to worry about
UNI liquidations total only $2.8 million over 24 hours, split almost evenly between longs and shorts. Compare that with BTC at $59.6 million or ETH at $77.5 million in the same window. A market that clears this little leverage can keep adding positions without a cascade, but it also means the next sharp move, if it comes, will hit a bigger book.
The setup reads as a slow leverage rebuild into a calm tape. Watch the funding rate and the $4.49 high: a funding spike above 0.03% with OI still climbing would flip this from quiet accumulation into a crowded trade. Data as of Beijing time 11:58 on August 27, covering Binance, OKX, Bybit, Hyperliquid, Gate, Bitget and other major venues.
