Arbitrum OI Climbs 0.8% as Long Crowding Meets Mixed Venue Signals

Arbitrum futures open interest has risen to $247.2M, up 0.8% in 24 hours, but the one-hour reading is down 0.4% while price sits at $0.1951. That combination points to a measured buildup rather than an accelerating directional squeeze. Market commentary is also watching whether a recent five-percent-style recovery can hold around the $0.20 area as participation cools.

OI is expanding, but not everywhere

The venue split shows where the buildup is concentrated. Binance carries the largest share at 21.9%, with OI of $54.1M and a 3.7% daily increase. Gate follows with a 15.3% share and $37.8M, although its OI rose only 0.5%. Bybit holds 12.5% and $31.0M after a 3.3% increase, while OKX contributes 8.9% and $22.0M after a 3.5% rise. OKX is the most active on the shorter horizon: its four-hour OI change is 4.3%, compared with 0.5% on Binance and 0.6% on Bybit.

That distribution matters because the aggregate move is being supported by several major venues, yet the latest hourly pullback suggests traders are not adding risk uniformly. Bitget, with a 7.2% share, is already down 1.7% over 24 hours and 0.6% over four hours. The result is a market with positive daily leverage growth but a less convincing near-term impulse.

Funding separates the crowded trades

The average eight-hour funding rate is -0.0189%, signaling that shorts are paying longs overall. Venue rates are far from uniform: Binance is -0.0098%, Bybit is -0.0047%, and Bitget is +0.0100%. OKX is also positive at +0.0100%, while Gate is +0.0012%. Coinbase is the most negative among the listed major readings at -0.0350%, and CoinEx is an extreme -0.4315% despite its negligible 0.01% OI share.

This split makes the OI rise harder to classify as a clean long build. Negative funding can support a rebound if shorts are forced to cover, but positive rates on OKX and Bitget show that some venues are already charging longs. The annualized basis is -31.8%, reinforcing a defensive derivatives backdrop rather than a broad premium bid.

Positioning says long accounts, short aggression

Account positioning is visibly long-heavy: the overall long account share is 62.2%. Bybit is the clearest example, with 71.4% of accounts long, while Gate is at 62.3% and Binance at 54.2%. OKX is the exception, with 47.9% long and 52.1% short. Yet the long/short ratio from active takers is only 41.4% long overall. Binance takers are 43.1% long, and Gate takers are just 33.9% long.

The gap suggests many accounts are positioned for upside, while aggressive orders are selling into the market. The liquidation profile adds weight to that interpretation: over 24 hours, long liquidations reached $154.2K versus $347.0K for shorts, but the shorter windows reversed the pattern. In the last hour, $5.3K of longs were liquidated and no shorts; over four hours, long liquidations were $11.9K against $1.5K shorts. The largest recorded events were short liquidations near $0.20327, $0.20266 and $0.20163, worth $58.9K, $39.6K and $38.1K.

Verdict: ARB OI is building, but the signal is fragile and split across venues. The key support reference is the current $0.1951 area with aggregate OI near $247.2M; the bullish interpretation is invalidated if price loses that area while OI remains elevated, while the cautious view is invalidated by a sustained move above $0.20327 accompanied by OI exceeding $248.0M.
