Stellar XLM Open Interest Rises 5.0% as $214.2M Stays Long-Biased

Stellar is trading at $0.2024 after a 3.7% gain, while open interest has climbed 5.0% in 24 hours to $214.2M. Derivatives volume has also expanded sharply, with the ticker showing a 92.0% daily increase. That combination points to fresh participation, but the key question is whether the new exposure is supporting price discovery or simply building leverage around the current level.
A recent market outlook frames Stellar as holding near an important price area while momentum remains mixed and stochastic readings appear oversold.
Exchange OI is rising across the leaders
Binance holds the largest listed XLM position at $40.3M, representing 18.8% of tracked open interest, with its exposure up 3.5% over 24 hours. Bybit follows with $37.2M and a 17.4% share after a 2.8% increase. Gate is smaller in absolute size at $32.6M, but its 15.2% share has expanded 12.0%, making it the clearest acceleration among the largest venues.
Bitget contributes another $23.4M, or 11.0% of the tracked total, after a 2.8% rise. OKX is materially smaller at $11.8M and 5.5% share, while its open interest is up 3.1%. The broad direction matters: the largest venues are adding exposure together, rather than the entire increase being concentrated in one exchange. Yet Gate's faster expansion creates a concentration risk if that newer leverage unwinds quickly.
Funding is positive, but not uniform
The current funding rate picture is predominantly positive. Binance, Bybit, Gate, Bitget and several other major venues round to 0.0% at one decimal place, indicating that longs are generally paying shorts without an extreme displayed premium. CoinEx is the outlier on the upside at 0.1%, while Crypto.com and Paradex round to -0.0%.
This dispersion is important for the OI-price structure. Rising OI alongside mostly positive funding supports a long-leaning interpretation, but the variation between venues shows that positioning is not synchronized. A single aggregate funding figure would therefore understate the difference between crowded and less-crowded books.
Liquidations show a short squeeze, then a reset
The liquidation windows give the clearest evidence of changing pressure. In the latest 24-hour window, total liquidations reached $130.5K: shorts accounted for $107.7K and longs for $22.8K. The 4-hour window was also short-heavy, with $2.1K in short liquidations against only $12 in long liquidations.
The 12-hour picture reverses that balance. Long liquidations reached $11.7K versus $3.0K for shorts, for a $14.6K total. This sequence suggests that short sellers were squeezed during the recent price advance, but some long leverage was subsequently removed. The market is therefore not displaying a one-way liquidation cascade; it is rotating risk around $0.2024.
Positioning is long-biased, but not fully confirmed
The aggregate account snapshot shows 63.7% long accounts, while the active taker reading is 61.5% long. Both measures lean bullish, although the taker figure is less aggressive than the account distribution. The venue-level Binance account split is much closer to neutral at 50.6% long versus 49.4% short, reinforcing the idea that the aggregate long bias is not equally strong across every book.
My verdict is conditionally constructive: XLM can maintain a bullish OI-price structure while price holds above $0.2024 and total OI stays around or above $214.2M without a sharp liquidation imbalance. The view is invalidated if price loses $0.2024 while OI remains above $214.2M, because that would indicate leverage is expanding without price support rather than confirming accumulation.
