Liquidations Flip: 24H 79% Longs, Last Hour 74% Shorts

Liquidations totaled $329.8 million in the past 24 hours, and the split is unusual: 79% of the damage hit long positions. BTC slipped from a $79,312 high to $77,198, then stabilized near $78,400, while ETH dipped to $2,381 before bouncing back above $2,470. The last hour tells a different story, with shorts suddenly on the losing side.

24H Damage: $329.8M, 79% Longs

Across 87,578 liquidation events, longs were hit for $261.5 million against just $68.3 million of shorts. BTC led with $99.0 million in total liquidations, $83.5 million of it long positions. ETH followed at $84.2 million, with $62.4 million from longs. XRP came third at $31.5 million, almost entirely long-side at $29.6 million. The pattern is clear: the leveraged long crowd that built up during the push toward $80K paid the price as price rolled back.

Last Hour Flipped: Shorts Squeezed on the ETH Bounce

The 4-hour window shows $26.9 million cleared, with shorts paying 75% of it. In the last hour alone, shorts accounted for 74% of the $7.2 million in wiped positions. ETH's bounce off $2,381 triggered the squeeze; a 796-ETH short on Binance was cleared at $2,491. This runs opposite to the 24-hour trend, which suggests the long flush has largely run its course, at least for now.

Coin Split: BTC and ETH Lead, XRP Still Bleeds

XRP is the outlier. It fell 5.5% to $1.377 with a 24-hour high of $1.4736, and its liquidations ran 94% long. SOL added $13.2 million and DOGE $8.8 million to the long-side total. Exchange data matches: Binance saw $151.9 million wiped with 79% long, OKX $63.7 million, Hyperliquid $36.1 million. Bybit was comparatively lighter at $35.0 million.

What This Means

Longs were the clear losers over 24 hours, but the short squeeze in the last hour points to a cooling flush rather than an accelerating one. For traders, the 4-hour window is the gauge to watch: if shorts keep paying while BTC holds above $77,000, the leverage reset is close to done. If the flush resumes, XRP's long-heavy book is the most exposed segment.
