LOBSTER +37% to $0.036: OI Up 43% to $45M, Shorts Pay 68%

LOBSTER Rallies 37% While the Rest of Crypto Slips
LOBSTER, the meme perpetual that Binance listed back in March with a 5x leverage cap, is moving against the tape. At the latest snapshot it trades at $0.0364 on Binance, up 37% over 24 hours, while BTC sits near $78.4K, down 0.7%, and SOL and XRP both lose more than 3%. The move is broad across venues: Bitget shows +37.1%, Gate +37.0% and Aster +36.3%, so this is not a single-exchange quote artifact.
The range tells the real story. LOBSTER printed a 24-hour high of $0.0481 and a low of $0.0264. That is roughly an 82% round trip, the kind of amplitude you expect from a small-cap meme contract rather than a blue chip. The current price sits in the middle of that band, which means whoever bought the top is still underwater by about 25%.
Open Interest Up 43% to $45M: Fresh Longs, Not a Squeeze
Total open interest across venues stands at $45.1M, up 42.9% in 24 hours. Binance carries 51% of that book and its own OI is up 50.4%. Bitget adds 36%, Gate 40%. Leverage is being built, not unwound.
Here is the key detail. 24-hour liquidations on LOBSTER total just $924K, and 68% of that was shorts. If this were a classic short squeeze, forced buybacks would show up as a much larger liquidation print. They did not. The rally is being driven by new longs opening positions, not by trapped shorts covering. That is a different animal from the BTR or PROM moves this week, where OI exploded alongside heavy short covering and funding flipped hot.
Funding Stays Mild: Cost of Being Long Is Still Low
Funding across venues sits between 0.021% and 0.040% per interval, with the volume-weighted average around 0.023%. For a meme perp up 37% in a day, that is calm. Positive but calm. It tells you the crowded side has not yet started paying a penalty to hold longs, which is usually what happens late in a squeeze when leverage gets extreme.
That mild funding cuts both ways. The low cost of holding means the move can extend without an immediate unwind trigger. But the 5x leverage cap and the 82% daily range mean the downside path is just as violent. LOBSTER already proved that in the session: it tagged $0.0481 and gave back a third of the gain before stabilizing near $0.036.
What to Watch Next
Two signals matter from here. First, whether OI keeps climbing while funding stays under 0.05%. That combination would point to continuation. Second, a sudden spike in funding toward 0.1% or higher with price stalling would signal late longs piling in, the classic setup for a sharp reversal in a 5x meme contract. Liquidations are still tiny relative to the $45M book, so forced selling is not a near-term risk; the bigger risk is positioning unwinding on its own.
