Pump.fun OI Hits $485.8M as Shorts Face a $31.6K One-Hour Flush

Pump.fun is trading at $0.005689 with open interest at $485.8M, up 5.4% over 24 hours. The combination matters: price has gained 4.3%, while derivatives exposure has expanded by a similar 5.4%, suggesting that the move is attracting fresh leverage rather than being driven only by spot demand. The immediate structure is constructive, but the positioning is not cleanly one-sided.
Binance leads, while major OI pockets diverge
The open interest concentration is led by Binance at $117.3M, or 24.1% of the tracked total, after a 5.1% daily increase. That is the clearest source of expansion among the largest venues. Bitget holds $20.6M, or 4.3%, with OI up 3.9% in 24 hours. By contrast, OKX has $33.9M, or 7.0%, and has declined 0.4% over the same period.
The shorter window shows a more defensive rotation. Binance OI fell 0.9% over four hours, while OKX dropped 2.3% and Bitget slipped 0.3%. This means the daily increase has not translated into continuous intraday accumulation at the main venues. New exposure entered over the broader session, but some traders have already reduced risk near the current price.
Funding is positive, but not broadly overheated
The average funding reading is 0.0221% per 8-hour period, a positive cost for long positions. Venue-level rates are more mixed: Binance is at -0.000381%, while Bitget, Gate, Aster and KuCoin each show 0.005%. Lighter is higher at 0.0096%, and Paradex is at 0.008229%. Coinex is the outlier at 0.387227%, although its OI share is only 0.01%, limiting its value as a market-wide signal.
Positioning confirms the split. Binance accounts are 47.3% long and 52.7% short, while OKX accounts are 54.8% long and 45.3% short. The overall account balance is 55.4% long, but active takers are only 47.9% long. On Binance, takers are 53.6% long; on Gate, they are 40.9% long. In other words, more accounts lean long, yet aggressive execution is not consistently buying. That account-versus-taker divergence weakens the case for a straightforward continuation rally.
Liquidations show a changing squeeze profile
Recent liquidation data shows a sharp shift through the windows. In the latest hour, total liquidations reached $32.1K, with $31.6K from shorts and only $493 from longs. That is a short squeeze signature, and the largest listed event was a $135.2K Binance short liquidation at $0.005771.
The four-hour picture reverses the balance: long liquidations reached $302.3K versus $44.4K for shorts, for a $346.7K total. Over 12 hours, the split was nearly even at $537.5K long and $591.5K short. Across 24 hours, liquidations totaled $1.5M, with $736.6K from longs and $719.8K from shorts. The data therefore describes a two-way cleanup rather than a one-directional cascade. Recent upside is squeezing shorts, but earlier volatility already removed a substantial amount of long leverage.
Separately, crypto.news reported that Bubblemaps accused a Pump.fun influencer named Ethan of involvement in a scam.
Verdict: The near-term bias is cautiously bullish while price holds above $0.005689 and OI remains near or above $485.8M, because the latest $31.6K short flush and the $0.005771 liquidation point leave room for a continuation test. However, the view would be invalidated by a break below the $0.005410 liquidation level together with falling OI, which would signal that leverage is leaving rather than supporting the move. A push above $0.005771 with expanding OI would instead confirm a stronger squeeze continuation. Data as of 09:05 Beijing time on Oct 12, covering Binance, OKX, Bybit and other major venues.
