TAO -4.4% to $219.8: OI Sheds 4.1%, Funding Positive

TAO slides 4.4% after failing at $233

TAO traded at $219.8 at the snapshot, down 4.4% in 24 hours. Binance showed $219.82 with a 24h range of $233.28 to $218.61, and OKX printed $219.80 with a range of $233.10 to $218.40, so the two venues agree closely. The coin tried to push through the $233 area during the Asia session, got sold, then drifted down with the rest of the market as BTC slipped to $77.5K. Volume was heavy enough to matter: Binance alone cleared $86.2M in the last day.

Open interest sheds 4.1% as leverage unwinds

Total open interest across venues fell 4.1% to $318M, a moderate unwind rather than a violent flush. The cuts were uneven. KuCoin led with a 15.9% drop, Hyperliquid lost 8%, Gate was down 5.1%, and OKX shed 3.9%. Binance, the largest venue at $62.9M, trimmed only 2.1%, and Bybit held almost flat at -0.8%. That pattern suggests retail-heavy venues deleveraged faster while the biggest pools stayed put. Four-hour changes are mild everywhere, so the exit is spread out instead of hitting in one burst.

Funding stays positive while price falls

Funding rates remained in positive territory through the pullback. Binance sat at 0.005%, OKX at 0.01%, Bybit at 0.005%, and Hyperliquid at 0.00125%, with an open-interest-weighted average near 0.0047%. Longs are still paying shorts, which is unusual for a 4% down day. It means the drop is being driven by position trimming and spot selling, not a wave of aggressive shorting. Nobody is being paid to hold shorts yet, and that removes the fuel for a fast squeeze.

What this tells traders

TAO's setup is a slow bleed, not a panic. Positive funding with shrinking OI usually clears weak hands without setting up a short-squeeze trigger, so a fast V-shaped recovery is less likely than a choppy consolidation. Watch two levels: $218.4, the 24h low on both Binance and OKX, and the $233 rejection zone. If funding flips negative while OI keeps falling, the bias shifts lower. If KuCoin and Hyperliquid OI start rebuilding, that is an early sign the unwind is done and spot buyers are stepping back in.
