TRON Funding Turns -0.0177% Negative While $318.0M OI Contracts

TRON is trading at $0.33165 with aggregate open interest of $317.97M, down 0.7% over 24 hours, while its average 8-hour funding rate is -0.0055%. That combination points to a market where leveraged positioning is being reduced and short positions are still receiving a payment. The negative carry is meaningful, but the positioning data shows a more divided market than a simple bearish reading suggests.

Recent market commentary has also focused on TRX holding near $0.33 while momentum and funding remain under pressure.

Funding is broadly negative, not isolated

The funding map leans decisively bearish across the largest venues. Gate shows the most negative reading at -0.0228%, followed by Aster at -0.0199%, Binance at -0.0177%, and OKX at -0.0142%. Bybit is less extreme at -0.0055%, while Bitget is at -0.0061%. This breadth matters: the pressure is not being created by one exchange with an unusual contract imbalance.

There are exceptions. CoinEx shows positive funding of 0.0127%, while WhiteBIT is at 0.0065% and EdgeX at 0.0050%. Those positive prints suggest that some pockets of the market are still willing to pay for long exposure, even as the main liquidity centers price a discount for longs. The negative funding rate therefore looks like a broad but uneven short-term hedge demand rather than a universally crowded short trade.

OI contraction is led by key venues

Binance carries $98.40M of TRX open interest, or 31.0% of the tracked total, and its balance is down 0.8% over 24 hours. Gate holds $80.21M, or 25.2%, but is the notable countertrend venue, with OI up 0.5%. Bybit contributes $52.50M, or 16.5%, after a sharper 2.3% decline, while OKX holds $16.01M, or 5.0%, with a 0.7% drop.

The contrast between Gate expansion and Bybit contraction is important. It implies that the $317.97M total is not simply seeing one-sided liquidation-driven deleveraging; capital is also rotating between venues. Still, the net direction remains lower, and the 1-hour change of -0.0056% offers no evidence of an immediate fresh leverage build.

Long-heavy accounts meet short-heavy carry

The account data complicates the negative-funding signal. Binance accounts are 52.7% long and 47.4% short, a modest long majority. The broader snapshot shows 56.5% of accounts long, while the active taker reading is more strongly long at 68.3%. In other words, traders initiating transactions are leaning long even though long holders are paying funding on several major venues.

Liquidations remain contained rather than explosive. Across 12 hours, longs lost $10.6K versus $6.7K for shorts, for a total of $17.3K across 17 events. The 24-hour total is $19.0K, with $10.7K from longs and $8.3K from shorts across 23 events. Long liquidations lead, but the small totals do not yet show a forced unwind capable of resetting positioning by itself.

Verdict: the near-term bias remains defensive because funding is negative across Binance, Gate, Bybit, and OKX while OI is slipping. The key test is $0.33165: a failure to hold that price while total OI stays below $317.97M would favor further deleveraging, especially if Binance remains below $98.40M and Bybit remains below $52.50M. This view is invalidated if TRX sustains above $0.33165 while total OI expands above $317.97M, with the long-heavy taker reading continuing to hold above 68.3%.
